Black Panther Trip for Bmore Youth
As many of us pause to celebrate Black History Month, two young Black business owners in Baltimore want to go a step further and provide an opportunity for youth in their community to see Black Panther, the first major super hero film with an all Black cast and director. With nearly 23.7% of the population lives below the poverty line the cost of the ticket is too much for many families to spring for.
Maryland Marketing and Branding (MMB) is a small Baltimore based public relations and marketing firm that strives to enrich the small businesses across Maryland with the tools needed to expand their brands and increase visibility. MMB’s co-founders wanted to find a way to give back to their communities and plan to take local to see the film. Black Panther (the character and film) both exemplifies the idea that Black is beautiful, enriching, and should be celebrated. The film gives hope to the youth of Baltimore city, showing them that a Black man can be successful. It shows them that a Black woman can be beautiful. It shows us all that Black people have the ability to sell a blockbuster, all messages they’re eager for the children in their community to see.
MMB saw this moment as an opportunity for teaching. We focus on strengthening the small businesses across the state but those entrepreneurs all started as an eager child sitting in a classroom with a dream. Black Panther allows these children to reach deep within themselves and pull out their own inner Kings and Queens.
We want to raise enough money to send 100 students to a private screening of Black Panther. The $2000 will cover: ticket price, concessions, and travel for each student.
