Please help us save Charlie Bean

This is our 1 year old boy Charlie (or sometimes Professor Charles Bartlett). He is one of four cats that can be seen in the page photo. He's just over a year old, and he has a recurring bladder blockage. This is SO rare in young cats--we had no idea this might happen to him.
Charlie has now taken a turn and will need to either repeat the process he just went through (very painful for our poor sweetie), or, if that fails again, he will need a PU (perineal urethrostomy) surgery to save his life.
Charlie is amazing. We love him, the vets love him, everyone who meets him can't help but adore him. He is never mean, angry or ornery in the slightest. He is our absolute sweetheart. The idea of putting down this one year old marvel is horrific to me, and my partner, Evan, and we can't even imagine doing it if there is any alternative.
We do not have the money to pay for Charlie's surgery. The first vet bill was $300, which I paid on the spot. The second was $930 for the first attempt at unblocking Charlie (which failed), and we are hoping to set up a payment plan with that vet. Where we really need help is the third bill, which is $1300 for the second attempt at unblocking him (which sadly doesn't seem to be sticking either) and the potential fourth which we will confirm tomorrow. The final bill is estimated to be around $2000, for the PU surgery which is his last hope.
I work full-time at the moment, but I will be a student in the fall, and my partner has been unemployed for the past 6 months, although yesterday he got a job (congrats Evan!). Sadly, we had no idea this could happen, and the cost of the treatments and surgery will go on credit cards, and after that, into loans.
We are going to try everything we can to raise money. I'm raiding my closet, boxes and attic, and we are hoping to hold a fundraising event with part of the proceeds to local vet services.
