Milan's Fundraiser 2016

This is Milan's story:

"In December of 2014, after experiencing symptoms, I made a visit to the emergency room and requested an ultrasound of my abdomen. The ultrasound was performed on December 13 and revealed a large 8.2cm mass within my right kidney, and an enlargement of several lymph nodes in the area. I was scheduled for a CT scan on December 15 which revealed that the mass was most likely cancerous and that it had spread to the regional lymph nodes within the abdomen; distant lymph nodes; all three lobes on both lungs and the liver.

I was scheduled for a biopsy on December 22, and by January 13, 2015, the cancer was revealed to be a Small Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the right kidney. This is a diagnosis that has been made under 50 times in history.

I underwent 6 rounds of chemotherapy between February and July of 2015, followed by surgery to remove my kidney and abdominal lymph nodes on August 10, 2015. The surgery was successful but still left residual disease in the liver, lungs and distant lymph nodes which continued to grow. I underwent three more rounds of chemotherapy, which proved to be unsuccessful, from December of 2015 to March of 2016. 

Due to the rarity of the cancer, no real approved treatment exists apart from the standard chemotherapy which I did in early to mid 2015. Because no standard treatments exist, all costs generally have to be paid out of pocket and experimental treatments have to be sought out."

Since  Milan's diagnosis, he has and continues to spend countless hours researching the literature for evidence-based treatment options. Milan has been in contact with a doctor in Germany and hopes to attempt a therapy with great potential. Unfortunately, it comes with a great cost of approximately $4000/treatment for multiple treatments.
