HELLO POE FANS! We are fast approaching the 209th birthday of Edgar Allan Poe!  This event will be held at the Poe Monument located in the creepy but historic Westminster Graveyard at Fayette and Greene Streets in downtown Baltimore.

ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 20, 2018 beginning at 4 pm you will be entertained by our Poe performers who will present excerpts from Poe's most famous and terrifying stories! This includes The Tell Tale Heart, The Fall of the House of Usher, Berenice,  The Black Cat and many others!  In addition tributes to Poe by his contemporaries will be presented.

AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE READINGS  the Poe performers will place a wreath on the Poe Monument and read a Birthday Toast to Poe!  Apple cider will be provided to audience members who wish to participate in this traditional toast.
A SPECIAL APPEARANCE OF THE POE TOASTER will happened when the public event is concluded. This special one of a kind tribute is included in this celebration. This is the only known legitimate image of the Poe Toaster taken in 1990 by LIFE Magazine, photo credit: Bill Ballenburg.26361144_15137240360_r.jpeg

THE FIRST 25 PEOPLE TO ENTER will receive a chance to win a specially designed Poe themed cake designed by me, Jeff Jerome. This Book of Poe with the raven on the cover was designed for the 2016 birthday celebration. OTHER DOOR PRIZES will be announced at a later time. UPDATE! www.poemovies.com has donated 2 DVD's of The Raven and The Cask of Amontillado as door prices! Check them at their website! They are good Poe people! More updates coming!

SINCE 1982 I've been honoring Poe through many different special events honoring Baltimore's own, Edgar Allan Poe. Pictured here is John Astin, Victoria Price, daughter of Vincent Price and myself during the 2015 Birthday Celebration.26361144_15137237720_r.jpeg

UNFORTUNATELY  the City of Baltimore decided it wasn't interested in promoting Poe or these special events which brought international coverage to the Poe House, the Poe Grave and Baltimore!

THERE'S NEVER A GOOD TIME to ask for funds and with this time of the year it's particularly tight. But since Edgar decided to be born on January 19th we have to deal with it.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE MAKING AN ON-LINE DONATION you may send a check/money order to me and 100% of it will go towards Poe!  Send your contribution to:

P O Box 1226

CHECK IS MADE PAYABLE to Jeff Jerome. You will be acknowledged as a donor or if you wish to remain anonymous we can do that also. Keep in mind gofundme does not take out their percentage nor do they deduct a handling fee if you donate off line! Which means all of your donation goes to Poe!

THE FOLLOWING ORGANIZATIONS  have jointly assisted me in  making  this event happen: The Maryland Historical Society, Westminster Preservation Trust, and Annabel Lee Tavern.  I deeply appreciate their enthusiasm, vision and support in bringing Poe alive for you! I encourage you to thank them for this support.

Thank you to all the people who contributed to this event!

And a BIG thank you to the anonymous donor who issue the matching funds offer! You saved the day!

We had an outstanding turnout on Friday night and late Saturday afternoon! In total lover 300 people honored Poe on both nights!

I was very ill during the weekend but all the volunteers and performers were stellar!

Now I'm getting better and tossing around ideas for Poe's death date and the 2019 Poe birthday event!

I'm touched by the support and enthusiasm that was shown during this campaign.

A heartfelt Thank You to the people who made donations to make this event happen.

FAST APPROACHING THIS WEEKEND! The predicted snow for this Wednesday will be a minor annoyance but the weekend looks good!

We are still short of our goal!

You can still mail in your support if you don't like donating on line. You can donate up to Sunday midnight, January 21, 2018.

Use this address: Jeff Jerome, PO Box 1226, Severna Park, Md. 21146-0547.

I'll be picking up the Poe themed cake on Thursday and putting it in storage for Saturday evening! The design will be kept secret until the Saturday event starts at 6:00 pm!

Keep in mind you must feed the parking boxes when parking on the street for the Saturday event!

Please consider a donation to help with the necessary expenses. Everything has a cost and I'm thankful that Poe Baltimore stepped up to the plate and sponsored the Poe cake!

I'm pleased with all the people who've made donations! One kind woman made a $5 donation! Believed me when I say every donation helps!

The gates will open at 3:30 pm. The FIRST 25 people to enter will receive a ticket for the give away of the Poe Cake and other prizes including a collection of Poe stories and poems! ONLY THE FIRST 25 PEOPLE WILL GET THE TICKET STUB!

There will be one final update after the event. In the meantime thank you for your support and hope to see you Saturday, January 20th at 4 pm!

UPDATE! I'm pleased to announce that a Poe supporter who wishes to remain anonymous has made a $500 matching funds challenge to help raise money for this event! For every dollar raised from this point on this person will match that amount!

Fundraising for this event has been light. We need your support if this event is to be held at all!

Many people don't like to donate to on-line fundraising vehicles like GoFundMe and I understand that but you have another option of donating!

You can send your support directly to me! If you use this option 100% goes directly to the event! GoFundMe will not take their percentage out of your donation.

If you donate off line you'll still get recognition on this page if you so desire.

Every little bit helps!

www.poemovies.com donated DVD's of The Raven and The Cask of Amontillado towards the door prizes! We thank them for their support. Check out their website to see what they are up to.

Another anonymous supporter donated The Collected Works of Poe as another door prize!

There are going to be several lucky people in the audience that will be walking away with grand prizes at the event! Will you be one of them?

One last plea. Please help me honor Poe! When the City of Baltimore turned its back on Poe I continued with the death and birth date celebrations using my own funds. Unfortunately I could not continue doing so. During the past several years many of you stepped up to the plate and helped me continue these tributes with your donations! Let's keep the Poe flame glowing in Baltimore! Please consider a donation to this event.

Thank you for your support and friendship over the years and I hope to see you on Saturday, January 20 at 4 PM.

Yours in Poe,

Jeff Jerome

Next Tuesday I'll be going to Kirsten's Bakery in Severna Park and give her the design for the Poe themed cake that will be given away as a prize at the conclusion of the 209th Birthday Celebration on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Poe Monument! Be warned! It will be bloody but delicious!
