The Bill Windett Memorial Scholarship Fund

Bill Windett had an unparalleled passion for education, youth sports, and helping others.  To honor his commitment to students, the community, and advancing opportunities for young people to pursue a college education, his family is going to establish a memorial scholarship in Bill's name to be awarded annually.

William (Bill) Frank Windett passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, November 14th at the age of  65. A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Bill graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelors in Political Science and a Masters in Economics. Upon completing his degree, he began a 42 year career in education, beginning at Dover Air Force Base High School, before moving to Caesar Rodney High School.  Upon his retirement from Caesar Rodney, he continued his life long passion as an educator at St. Thomas More, where he also served as athletic director. Bill finished his career in education at St. Vincent Pallotti.

Over the years, Bill was also active in youth, middle, and high school sports.  He coached various teams including tennis, wrestling, basketball, football, swimming, baseball, and.softball.  He was an active coach of his children’s football, soccer, hockey, baseball, and lacrosse teams.

Bill’s passions included spoiling his grandchildren, his many dogs, surf fishing, and woodworking. He was happiest at the beach surrounded by his family.  

Bill is survived by his wife of 40 years, Debbie; his sons Adam Windett, and his wife Corey, of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania; Jason Windett, and his wife Amber Knight-Windett, of Charlotte, North Carolina; his daughter Kate Austin, and her husband T.J., of Milford, Delaware; his grandsons Logan Knight-Windett and Jackson Austin; his mother Rose Windett, of Wilmington, Delaware; his sister Karen Windett, of Wilmington, Delaware; his brother and sister-in-law,  Ron and Angela Windett, of Ruckersville, Virginia; his brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Tina Windett, of Newark, Delaware; his in-laws Keith and Heidi West, of Davidson,NC; his in-laws Kenny and Kay West of Seaford, DE; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.

A memorial viewing and service in celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Pippen Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, Delaware 19934.

In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial scholarship fund in Bill’s name to honor his love of education and desire to help students realize their dream of a college education.  Contributions can be made at www.gofundme.com/billwindett.
