Bill Haas is Associate Director of the Oak Hills Center For Indian Ministries (Bemidji, MN)/Director of the Mokahum Ministry Center (Cass Lake, MN).  Bill has been married to the love of his life, Cindy, for 35 years and have been blessed with two beautiful daughters (Leah and Kayla) and two energetic grandsons (Preston and Ethan).  The Haases have spent virtually their whole married life as missionaries, church planters and passionate followers of Jesus Christ.

On Tuesday, July 24, Bill experienced what seemed like symptoms related to that of a heart attack.  Upon admittance in the Bemidji Sanford Medical Center, it was diagnosed that Bill's symptoms were related to an aneurysm pressing against the stem of his brain.  Because of the immediate need for a very delicate and specialized surgery, Bill was transported by ambulance to Fargo, ND where he had surgery to address this life threatening situation the very next day.  The surgery was deemed a success although medical professionals cautioned there might be some residual side affects related to the serious nature of the surgery.  Upon his discharge on Friday, July 27, Bill returned home to his family with renewed focus on adjusting to a "new normal".  On Sunday, July 29, Bill was intent on spending the morning worshiping his Savior at a local church (which should not surprise anyone that knows the heart of Bill Haas).  Towards the end of the service, Bill began experiencing symptoms that were thought to be abnormal and stroke like in nature.  Bill was immediately brought to the ER where he was admitted for observation as to what was medically happening.  Because no stroke like symptoms manifested themselves, Bill returned home on Monday, July 30 to resume his recovery.  Early on the morning of July 31, Bill again felt like something wasn't right and asked Cindy to transport him back to the hospital for medical intervention.  Upon arrival at the hospital, Bill's situation had worsened to the point where his speech was significantly slurred and the left side of his face and body had lost functionality.  It was immediately determined that Bill needed to be airlifted to Fargo.  Upon his arrival in Fargo, the doctors confirmed that Bill had indeed suffered a stroke which could be traced back to his surgery a week earlier.

The long road to recovery is now underway as medical professionals in Fargo treat the small blood clots that stimulated Bill's stroke activity.  The physical, occupational and speech therapy that is needed in the days ahead is sure to be exhaustive and physically taxing.  Bill understands this and is ready for the challenge.  He's told the nurses that he has a warrior mentality that's not about to let this beat him.

This fund is being set up as a means to assist the Haas family with costs related to this unexpected and significant medical situation.  Outside of Bill's medical treatment , deductible and transportation costs, Cindy will be taking a leave of absence from her job to assist with Bill's recovery.  Inevitably, this will put considerable stress upon their family's finances for the foreseeable future.

If able, your financial assistance would be greatly appreciated.  That said, the Haas family would covet your prayers for a miraculous and complete recovery.  Cindy mentioned they rest in complete confidence "that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him" (Romans 8:28), including the trials they presently face.

We’ve got a walker!!! Bill's therapy is in full swing as he has a couple more weeks of therapy in Fargo before returning to Bemidji. While recovery is moving along slow but sure, please pray that Bill has patience in the process. He's a warrior and very focused on getting better. That said, it's easy for him to become discouraged when things aren't progressing as quickly as he might have hoped. Also pray for his swallowing and return of other body functions that are still a work in progress. God is good and faithful!

God is good!!! Today, Bill was able to wiggle his left side fingers and toes and move his left leg. A huge answer to prayer!!! He’s making amazing progress. His mind is sharp and his speech is greatly improving. God is definitely at work. Bill wants you all to know that he’s got some Arnold Schwarzenegger in him because he boldly proclaimed “I’ll be back!” He expresses deep gratitude for your love, prayers and financial support. Please keep the prayers coming and share his story if so led. Getting the word out for prayer and financial support is the way to achieve our goals for physical recovery and relief of the significant financial stress this has created for him and his family. Thank you!!!

Update on Bill: Bill remains hospitalized in Fargo but it looks like the next step in his journey is to a rehab facility, hopefully this week. His road to recovery is going to be long and what the long term affects will be from the stroke are yet to be determined. That said, if there's a person that is determined to do what it takes to get better it's Bill Haas. The stroke picked the wrong person to fight against as Bill is a warrior. I've told him he's in the first quarter of a four quarter game and it's going to take small steps each day to reap the fourth quarter benefits. We're seeing small signs of improvement each day. Please continue to pray for him and his family. Also, please consider sharing the link to his GoFundMe page:

We have raised $4,525 thus far which is so encouraging and a huge blessing to Bill and his family. Thank you so much to those of you that have given and prayed for this situation! The key to reaching our goal is word of mouth. The more that people share, the more his story is captured by a wider audience of people.
