Haiden's Medical Journey
Update for the week...
He had a pretty good week, the Dr.s' just keep saying having a preemie is like being on a roller coaster, you will have great days and you will have not so great days. Haiden has a small heart murmur and while he was in Puerto Rico the Dr.s' decided to use the medicine that is normally for the heart closure on improving his brain stability instead, so we'll just have to wait for the flap on the side of his heart to close up on its own. But because he has this issue they have to be careful that he doesn't get to much fluid in his lungs, so he gets about 2 Tbsp. of milk every 3 hours over a 90 min period. This has been a good rate for Haiden and he has had very little issues with the tolerance. He gets the milk through a tube that is in his stomach, the nurses also give him a cotton swab of milk on his mouth/lips which he will clamp down on. He is slowly gaining weight but he is still only at 1lb. 9oz. He loves to sleep on his stomach, he hasn't gotten to sleep on his stomach lately since he had to have the respirator tube put back in to assist him with breathing.
The hardest part about all of this, is every preemie is different, what worked on one won't work the same for another. Some grow faster than others, the list just goes on and on. If any of you know me I don't like to just sit, I like to be kept busy and with him we don't get to touch him much so we just look through a glass wall at him. Haiden is such a mover, he gets touch time every 3 hours and the nurses always will say hold still he will kick and stretch while they are changing him and it makes it very hard for them to get his diaper back on.
The best part of all this is Haiden should of still been in my stomach for another 15 weeks and I get to see the steps of him growing in person. To see all the little characterics that he has gained in the short time already has been amazing. Haiden is a fighter and he will make it through all of this. He might not like needles or want to go to any checkups for a very long time after this, but he will continue to be an inspiration to all that hear his story. Thank you all for the kind thoughts we receive, its nice to know so many people are praying for our family. Chloe is in Utah with family and she is doing very well. She will ask to see Baby Haiden and we will either show her a picture or if we can she will Facetime with him. He will pick up his arm like he is waving to her and Chloe will say momma he waived at me, or she will ask if she can give him a kiss. She will tell my mom that she wants Haiden to come home when he is better so she can hold him. This little girl is amazing and if she can remain strong and be okay without both of her parents we can remain strong as well. Chase and I have been blessed with amazing kids who are true fighters. For now we will remain in Florida till Haiden gains more weight and then can be life flighted to Primary Children in SLC.
Any Help for Haiden and our family would be greatly appreciated, as we are all going to have a long road ahead of us.
How I have been blessed with this little boy who is so full of life and LOVES is Momma is beyond me. He loves when I come home from work and will come crawling the second he hears my voice. After talking with his Physical Therapist they have said how advance he is because they still study him as a 9 month old, and for him to be hitting the stages that he is, this little guy wants it.
God Bless You All
I hope everyone has an awesome day today!
Happy 1st Birthday little Haiden!
We took Haiden swimming and he fell asleep in his floater, guess the water relaxes him.... who would of thought. :)
Love these adorable children of mine, being a mom has truly blessed me in many ways.
However, I want to share the news so I am slowly getting over being the protective Momma.
The last 9 months has been very busy, but Haiden is doing AMAZING!! He currently is at 9 months and 14 days now remember he was born 3 months early so his milestones are for a 6 month old. Haiden is rolling over like crazy and he does a great arch/push up, so he will be crawling in no time. He is bearing weight and standing for 2+ mins at a time. He is staring to sit up better, but can only hold it for maybe 15 seconds before he falls over. Haiden's weight is at... 15lbs. 5 oz. and is 25 1/2 long!! Coming from 1lb. 8oz. this little boy is amazing. People who have seen him have no clue by looking at him that he had such a traumatic entrance into this world. We are also in the process of teething, he currently has 2 teeth pushing through.
Haiden has gorgeous blue eyes and the cutest dimples when this little guy looks at you, you can't help but smile and just fall in love with him.
We are so grateful for how Haiden has continued to grow and develop and incredibly thankful for him being as healthy as he is. All I know is I have just played a small part in this process, a much higher being has been watching and guiding this little miracle.
I hope seeing a few pictures of this little beauty will brighten your day like he does ours!!
Saw your story on my local news here in Boston just now. For all the negative things in the world we see online, I would like to believe this campaign is why social media exists. It can bring out the best in millions of people. $20 may not be much from some random Boston guy, but hopefully it multiplies. Good luck Haiden! Peace.
We just wanted to let you both know that we are praying for you all and your sweet Little Miracle. I couldn't have imagine what you both have went through being that far away when you had your sweet baby, but i do know how scary and terrifying of the not knowing what is going to go on minute after minute. Our little Mirco-preemie Miracle Dixie Jean was taken at 27 weeks only weighing 1lb 10oz after staying in the NICU for 120 days with multiple surgeries we were finally able to bring her home. I just want you to know that you will be able to bring your baby home soon, there was a saying that we went by and still do... "God's Got This" just remember that and please take care of yourself as well. I hope this has not upset up, but I do hope that it can be an inspiration to you!! Yes you are completely right it is an upside down rollercoaster ride, but remember it is not forever!! God is in Control and we pray that you all will have peace and strength throughout this journey!!! Love from one preemie mom to another!!!
Wow, so glad to hear Haiden is progressing well! He sounds like a fighter! My son, Zachary, was born at 26 weeks in Miami and cared for in the NICU at the Hospital your Haiden is at. It was called Miami Childrens Hospital back then, Zach will be 19 on Oct 12, he is a strong healthy teenager now, a Freshman at FSU. It is a rollercoaster ride, stay strong and ride it through. The staff at the hospital during our 3 month stay were amazing and very supportive. Sending, love, prayers and support for Haiden and you both!
I was so glad to see this on Facebook. My husband and I were on the cruise when you had the baby and I have wondered about the baby and how he was. We didn't know how premature he was and that he was so tiny. We did get one update from the captain before returning to Ft. Lauderdale, the mother and baby we're doing well. I will be praying for him and your family and watch for updates. Best wishes to all of you and I pray Haiden improves every day.
Emily, Our hearts are so happy to hear that sweet baby Haiden is coming home! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and know that your new feiends in Alabama send their love! Can't wait to see him snuggling in his blanket! If he needs another one, just let me know!
In our families thoughts and prayers! I gave birth to our miracle Cory at 25 weeks, we spent 104 days in the NICU at Golisano Children's Hospital! Take one day at a time, this journey is long but will teach more about yourself that you did not know! It is so very hard to give control away, but you are the most important advocate for Haiden! Stay strong, one day at a time!
Use priceline.com to book a car. I believe you are in Miami, so book from the miami airport and just take a cab to the airport to pick it up. On priceline, You type in the amount you're willing to pay and it will tell you if its been accepted by a company. You can do 3 bids per credit card you enter. Start at $11, if it doesn't work go up a couple dollars and try again. You can usually get a compact for around $11/day. Good luck. Sending you strength and well wishes for Haiden.
