"39 is to Young to Say Goodbye"
Hello everyone this is for my friends
Beth and Jared
In June of 2013, the pain in Jared’s hip wasn’t able to be controlled with OTC medication and was using a cane to walk. He was referred to Moffitt in Tampa. After much difficulty getting a clear diagnosis, he was diagnosed with pelvic bone undifferentiated high-grade sarcoma. After 2 rounds, consisting of 5 day stay at Moffitt, (1 ½ hours away) of doxorubin and ifosfamide (The Red Devil), treatment was stopped due to an infection.
On December 11, Jared went in for 9 hour surgery for a left internal hemipelvectomy. They were up all night. They talked, they cried, they just laid in bed holding each other. They were told he may never walk again. If he did, he would use a cane or walker. There was also possibilty if things didn't go as planned, he could lose his leg. Thankfully he came out of surgery with his leg and over bout 200 + staples.
After months of pain, physical and occupational therapy, adjustments to their home and lives, he was home and walking with a walker and eventually with a cane. However the surgery didn’t have clean margins and due to an infection along the surgical incision, radiation was postponed .
In May 2014, once wound healed he was able to start more rounds of doxorubin and ifosfamide. He decided to take a break after due to extreme fatigue and poor QOL. The docs told them he was in “radiographic remission”.
On October 13th 2014, Jared proposed! With hopes to be married in April or May 2015. Beths mother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, maid of honor and 3 of her closest friends went dress shopping and planning began.
Jared and Beth went to Moffitt for his 3 month check-up. Unfortunately, the news that they received was not good. The cancer was back in his lungs and in the soft tissues of his pelvis. Jared's attitude continued to be remarkable and he refused to dwell on the negative. He put his boxing gloves back on and went back into fight. He started chemo in December 2014. This time only having doxorubin. Due to him restarting the chemo the wedding plans were put on hold.
His pain and symptoms worsened and the decision was made to change to a less affective chemo pill, pazopanib, in May 2015.
With his QOL better, they took a vacation to Key West in June and started planning their wedding for November 7th 2015.
They had chartered a boat for 80 of their family and friends for a casual sunset cruise cocktail wedding. However Jareds breathing, energy and spirit were declining. They were told on October 19th that they would have 1-2 months left with him. 3 days later, 17 days before they were to say “I Do”, Beth cancelled the flowers, the boat, the photographer and got the word out. Four days later she picked up her dress from alterations knowing she would probably not get to wear it.
In a weeks time, he started using oxygen 24/7. He has grown weaker and now in hospital for blood transfusion and dehydration. Beths heart is breaking and is struggling for the strength to remain strong. She is thankful for his mother and father. Beths family and close friends have allowed her to cry, be silent, just be. But now she is needing to find the strength and courage to help him be at peace. She is just as scared as he is. Hospice is involved and as far as I know, he will be coming home to live the final days he has.
Jared loves Beth more than life itself. He is her prince, her knight in shining armor and on November 7, 2015 Beth was to marry her best friend, soul mate, her everything in life. The cancer has spread so quickly in a matter of 3 months. Jareds spirits are still good and worries about his bride to be future without him. Beth will have alot to deal with in the next few months. She would like to spend as much time with Jared that he has left with her.
I started a GoFundMe account in their names to help with some of the burden on Jared & Beth.
Please consider making a donation. Anything would be appreciated
Thank You So Much
