BAC 50th Anniversary Campaign

Donation protected
The Berkeley Art Center (BAC) is celebrating its 50th anniversary! As part of our 50th year, BAC is launching this campaign to assist in economic stability and secure funds for upcoming exhibitions and community programs. With government funding for the arts uncertain and sparse, it’s more important than ever to protect small arts organizations from fiscal ruin and closure. BAC needs the community’s support to remain a hub for creative culture.

Designed by Robert Ratcliff Architects in 1967, BAC was built by the Rotary Club of Berkeley as a gift to the City of Berkeley. BAC has been a cutting-edge art gallery ever since, presenting the work of talented local artists working in a wide range of mediums and expressing diverse points of view. BAC offers a variety of monthly programs including art exhibitions, which are always free to the public; meet the artists events; educational programs; professional development events; and family-friendly activities where families can create together. BAC is committed to serving as an educational outlet for both adults and children.

For the past 50 years, BAC has presented exhibitions that reflect the times and shape the local art scene. A few examples include: “Chiura Obata: Sumi Painting” (1967), “The Impact of African Sculpture on German Expressionism” (1968), “Betye Saar: Black Girl’s Window” (1972–73), “Mildred Howard: Crossings” (1997), “Visual Arts Lyric Escape: Paintings by Lawrence Ferlinghetti” (2009), and “The Agility Projects present Rodney Ewing & Jamil Hellu” (2016). We are proud of our 50 year legacy and contribution to Bay Area art and culture.

Looking forward to the next 50 years, our mission is to continue to inspire positive cultural change by nurturing artists and encouraging our community to participate in creative expression.

To help BAC with this mission, please make a donation! Incoming funds will assist with upcoming exhibitions, family and youth programming, and artist professional development opportunities. Please share this campaign with your friends and family, either through text, email, or social media. All donation levels are welcome.
