Berkeley High Jacket Newspaper 2017

The Berkeley High Jacket is a student funded newspaper run by students at Berkeley's only public comprehensive high school.  Over the years it has won just about every award possible for student journalism, as well as serving as a stepping stone for students pursuing journalism degrees (among other courses of study) at some of the world's most prestigious universities.   More importantly, the Jacket family serves as a creative outlet for the students who take immense pride in the quality of the Jacket.

While I'm the adviser, the students are responsible for EVERY aspect of the paper.  They brainstorm and assign stories, they manage the gathering of news sources and evidence, the write and edit the stories, they lay them out into the paper, they submit it to be printed professionally.  They arrange for pickup and distribution of the paper, and they manage a subscription list and accounting.

For over 100 years, the Berkeley High School Jacket has served as a voice of the Berkeley High School community. It costs us about $1000 per issue for printing and mailing, and while we are able to make some of that back through subscriptions, we can use all the help we can get.

We're hoping to raise enough money to pay for our final issues of the 2016-17 school year.  Many of you have likely already donated or are subscribers, but, really, every little bit helps to provide the students this important outlet.
