Ben Bost Medical Expenses

About a month ago, my good friend Ben Bost suffered from two strokes at the base of his brain stem. The second stroke has left him paralyzed from the neck down. He is currently on a ventilator in order to breathe. Luckily, he has retained full cognitive skills and is 100% aware of everything. Ben’s wife, Natalie, has been by his side nearly every moment since the incident.
Out of nowhere and in an instant, his life has been turned completely upside down. He has good insurance, but even so, they are still only covering the minimal required treatment. This has left a windfall of additional expenses and the costs are piling up daily. He will be spending the next several months in a rehabilitation treatment learning to live as a quadrapalegic. His home will need to be fitted for this. He will need a van to accommodate transportation. He will need a special wheel chair built to accommodate his specific needs. Ben has 2 young daughters, Ebie (age 8) and MariMac (age 6). They have been surrounded by family during this crisis, but will need some help as life moves forward for everyone.
Current documentation being provided by the hospital estimates the average yearly expense for the first year for someone with this type of injury (C2 spinal injury) to be $1,064,714. Each subsequent year averages $184,891.
Ben is self-employed as the owner of 3 Smart Way furniture stores. His father has stepped in on the short term to help keep those stores running, but it will be quite a challenge to keep a stable income as a self-employed business owner.
