BELL Camp for Blind Colorado Kids

Literacy - Confidence - Independence …

Who wouldn’t want these things for our children?  For all children?

During the Summer of 2017, the National Federation of the Blind of Colorado will conduct two BELL camps for blind and visually impaired children. The first will be for two weeks in Westminster and our first-ever on the Western Slope will be in Grand Junction for one week.

The NFB Braille Enrichment for Literacy and Learning (BELL) Academy prepares blind and low vision children, ages four through twelve, to grow into confident and independent blind people who will live the lives they want. The program provides Braille and non-visual skills instruction through fun, hands-on learning in a day program or residential setting. In addition to Braille crafts, games, and other engaging projects, children learn vital independent living skills, interact with blind adults who serve as mentors, and enjoy field trips to sites related to the NFB BELL Academy curriculum. Through these activities and interactions, the children learn that blindness or low vision does not define them or their future.

The money raised by the NFB of Colorado in this campaign will go to pay our Certified teachers and to cover the other costs, including activities and supplies for our 2017 BELL camps.  In addition, the Grand Junction BELL camp will bring in children and parents from a much wider geographic area, necessitating lodging expenses for those coming from out of town.
