Becky's Community Chest

$4,685 of $8,000 goal

Raised by 57 people in 4 months
My beautiful, amazing, loving mother, Becky, is undergoing breast cancer surgery (bilateral mastectomy) and unfortunately at this time won't be coming out of surgery with her breasts!

My mother and father are having to fund entirely out of pocket and arrange payment plans for her cancer surgery. The cost is beyond their means.

Please, help me by donating money to Becky's Community Chest so she will be able to pay the costs for physicians, treatment, surgeries etc.

If funds fall short for surgeries and related medical expenses the funds will be used to pay for any of the medical costs related to the mastectomy and/or arising from the cancer diagnoses. Thank you so much for your generosity!

Hi everyone! This is Becky. Good news! I was able to make a payment so I could have all the pre-chemo tests done this week! I had the port placement Monday, CT Scans Tuesday and I'm scheduled for Echo-cardiogram Thursday. I am suppose to start chemo on Monday, Oct 8th. So, if one can be happy about starting chemo, I'm happy and thankful to be taking the first steps in my treatment plan! It wouldn't have happened without you! Thank you so much for your help and support. Please keep praying!

Sept 9, 2018. From Becky
Thank you so much everyone! Your hearts are so large in all the kindnesses shown to us in so many ways! We appreciate every text, card, every kind word, every meal, every prayer, every big hug...we are so humbled and grateful!

I feel very good physically. Feeling more normal each day. Trying to get more range of motion from my arms and chest. Trying not to get lymphedema.

A lot has happened since the last update. The Tumor Board consensus was that I need chemo, radiation and then 5-10 years of hormone therapy. Very hopeful that chemo and radiation will take care of any stray cells and that the hormone therapy will keep me clear long range. No guarantees but outlook is good. I am encouraged. A little scared but encouraged.

I met with the oncologist who prescribed 6 rounds of chemo every 21 days. Each infusion costs a little over $12,000 (for the various chemo drugs and the infusion). I haven't met with the radiologist so I don't know that that looks like yet.

A little trip on the journey: I was scheduled to have a port put in (through which to receive the chemo), and EKG and a few CT scans Sept 6th and 7th. The hospital called the day before and informed me that they require full payment for all out-patient procedures before they are performed. I was forced to cancel all of the procedures. I spent the day Friday at the hospital in a few different offices trying to set up a payment plan for the necessary outpatient procedures and to find out exactly what paying for chemo looks like. (After all, why receive a port if you can't afford the treatments?) Of course chemo treatment is on hold now. I don't think a few weeks matter. Everyone at the hospital has been and continue to be very helpful, but as my surgeon told the tumor Board, 'this lady is falling through all the cracks'. .

We're still making payments to 3 different pathology labs, radiologists, the anesthesiologist, surgeon and the hospital etc from the mastectomy. Hopefully we are keeping the collection agencies at bay. (Though each of these entities are trying to scare us!) We are trying to stretch the dollars and pay as much as possible to everyone we owe. Your gifts have helped so much!

I am continuing the search for financial assistance programs from the chemo drug companies, various cancer help organizations, and insurance options. (I did find out this week that a drug company that makes one of the nausea medications I will have to take is providing it to me for free!) Thankful! Not giving up!

Thank you again for walking with us & loving us during this unexpected journey. We love you all. We especially covet your prayers. Pray that we (and all necessary folks) make the right decisions concerning treatment. Please remember to pray for Jim too <3

From my Mom:

Thank you everyone! Oh my goodness! So amazed at all the love & support we've received from everyone. God's love truly is abounding from each one of you towards me. It's overwhelming!

I'm healing on schedule & waiting for last 2 drains to be removed! Mostly good days!

Update: The surgeon was only going to remove 5 sentinal lymph nodes during mastectomy. Instead he wound up taking 13. Thank goodness he did! (He really does pray for each patient & their case ) Oddly, cancer was found in 2 of those extra lymph nodes. Sadly, that indicates cancer elsewhere.

My surgeon is presenting my case (treatment options & our lack of insurance) before the hospital 'Tumor Board' (all of my future caregivers) on 8/17. Please pray for him! On 8/24 I should know what they suggest. Please pray for the Board to have wisdom & insight + favor/mercy for our financial situation!

At this point I'm only concerned with treatment & being cancer free. Reconstruction is not high on my list of priorities. The most effective treatment as an uninsured patient IS.

Regardless, God is good & faithful to us. We can & do trust Him.

Joke One of our favorite people POINTEDLY told Jim, "Hey, Becky still has one boob!" (I say Hey! He's no boob!)

So very thankful for each one of you that God has placed in our lives. I know God will repay you for your benevolence, for each beautiful kindness & every prayer offered.

My prayer request is for complete healing & for Jim & I to walk in overwhelming peace & joy, without fear & for us not to waver in trust that God is taking perfect care of us in every area.

We love you all. Grateful!
