Bear Ate a Quarter!
Donation protected
Last week... Bear the cat ate a quarter.
How? Who knows! But he did it nonetheless.
We did not witness Bear's attempt to impersonate a vending machine, but we certainly did notice that his familiar loving and curious personality was missing. Instead, he was lethargic, very weak, and began isolating himself.

Bear wasn't doing well...
He had stopped eating at this point (Bear is a BIG BOY), and he lost 2 pounds in just a few days. This rapid weight loss was putting excessive strain on Bear's liver, and when we took him to the vet we discovered that he was experiencing hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver). We were so worried! Bear loves to spend time out in the yard with us, and we thought that maybe he had eaten something that poisoned him! Or that he had some kind of crazy parasite... but no... he just ate a quarter. A quarter which was promptly surgically removed :)
And now he's at home recovering! He's getting his strength back but still has to be fed through a tube until he gets his appetite back, which will hopefully be sometime next week

Getting that 25¢ out of Bear's stomach cost us ~$3,000 when things were all said and done. An expense that we will pay again without hesitation if we ever have to... but one that was unexpected and ill prepared for all the same.
We love Bear, and we know he has a lot of friends who love him too. He's getting a little better every day! This fundraiser is to help offset the cost of his surgery, medications, prescription diet food, emergency room stay, and his upcoming follow up appointments. Any help is appreciated!
