Be a Genius Girl- Start Up

(Genius Girls become Genius Women who change the WORLD!
Did you know that women make up half of the U.S. workforce, but hold only about 25% of the jobs in technical or computer fields?  This is unfortunate as there are more open Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) jobs than other industries and entry positions in these fields tend to pay more money than other industries.   As you can imagine, with women representing such a small percentage of the STEM workforce, finding female role models that girls can look up to and emulate can be difficult.  Check out videos in the "Food For Thought" section below for more information on girls and STEM.

Who We Are
My name is Charnese Evans and I am the founder of Be a Genius Girl, a non profit start up (501(c)3 status is pending) that is focused on empowering girls to pursue their interests and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) fields.  We include art in the STEM equation because creativity is one of the keys to developing new innovations and has great implications for the future when combined with the other STEM disciplines.  At Be a Genius Girl, our goal will be to produce the next generation of female leaders, role models and mentors by providing innovative programming that will keep girls engaged in learning year round.

What We Do
Be a Genius Girl will provide fun and interactive monthly enrichment activities and special events that gives girls the opportunity to explore different aspects of the STEAM fields and careers coupled with being mentored by women in these industries. Our STEAM based curriculum will also incorporates social skills, problem solving and leadership skills building activities while providing opportunities for positive peer interactions.

Program Impact
The intended impact of Be a Genius Girl is to increase the number of girls who pursue STEAM field interests beyond 8th grade and increase the number of women in STEAM careers.  An anticipated secondary impact of Be a Genius Girl programming is a reduction in the gender wage gap, domestic violence rates and poverty levels as more women move into STEAM fields, where salaries are higher and there are more open positions to be filled.

How You Can Help
As a start-up, Be a Genius Girl is in need of $7,000 in seed money to cover:
-non-profit registration costs and fees
-website production and marketing materials
-administrative expenses
-curriculum development

If you don't believe the old myth that only boys are interested in science, space, technology and engineering...well you've found a kindred spirit in me and Be a Genius Girl!  So, please consider supporting my passion for inspiring and empowering girls to let their inner Genius Girl shine brightly and to be the very best versions of themselves.

Thank you,
 Charnese
