Help Nova Walk Again

UPDATE 6/28/2019

Nova had her first vet visit since her incident. The vet did say it is healing well and they re-casted the area. They told us to try to stop the pain medication we are giving her so we did, but now she seems to be limping and favoring that leg a lot so we tried to restart her pain medication. Day 2 of that and she is still barely putting any weight on her casted foot. We called the veterinary office and are waiting now to hear back on what we should do, whether we have to bring her back in or just continue what we are doing. This will be a long journey as Nova is already very restless in her little cage throughout the day, she does get to come out and walk around a little bit but it is not enough for her active lifestyle of running through our acres of property all day long!
I will post another update later on when we see the vet again :)

NOVA:

Novas Story

Nova is my family's german shepherd dog. We have had her since she was just an 8 week old puppy. Now she is 3 years old! (Man how time flies). However, late last night Nova had a weird accident. We heard her yelping very loud and she came hobbling to the back porch of our house and she was bleeding-A LOT. We checked her over and she had a massive gouge on the back of her right hind paw and then another laceration on her left hind (though not as bad as the right). It wouldn't stop bleeding, so we quickly found some rags and taped them on and applied pressure to get the blood-flow to settle. We then drove to our local emergency clinic. They looked at her leg and said she had ripped her Achilles tendon right in half and that they were not prepared for a surgery of this nature and sent us down to the specialist hospital for her to be taken into surgery. We went to the specialist and they cleaned her wound up and took her in to surgery. The price of this surgery is a lot of money ($4700!) but we couldn't see anything happen to our loved girl, so we proceeded with the surgery using our care credit account (which has a maximum of $4500). It covered her surgery but now we will be struggling to pay this off, and she is also in need of at least 6 recheck appointments and more medication to help with pain, keeping her calm, and antibiotics for infection. We want the best for her and are asking for help from the community to allow her a smooth recovery! If any complications happen there was talk of amputation or a weak spot in her leg forever, so we want her to get all the vet care she needs in order to recover with no complications like this.

So what actually happened to Nova?

We had a camera set where she was sitting, by the garage. The garage door was open and she always sits like a person- with her butt on the threshold of the door and her legs dangling underneath it. Well on the video you can see her acting as she normally would and then she goes to bolt (probably trying to chase our other dog, Nala, who is also in one of the photos above), after she goes to stand you see her flinch real hard and this is when she must have yelped and ran to the back porch of the house. Well there was fur underneath the threshold, her legs had sat underneath the threshold between it and the ground and in that exact moment she went to run it cut the back of her legs, right down to the tendon.  This is a freak accident but it also shows that anything can happen even when you're least expecting it. Any donations towards this cause would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all so much,
Breanna
