BCCB Flood Relief Effort 2017:

Aim: To raise funds to support the affected poor people of Bangladesh that are victims of the recent flooding that is occurring

Nearly 250 people have died in the last few days as a result of flooding and landslides that have devastated parts of northern India, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Millions of people have been displaced across the region, and 245 people are recorded to have been killed by collapsed buildings or by drowning.

A third of Bangladesh is flooded after monsoon rains swept through the densely populated riverine country.

At least 27 people have died and a further 600,000 have been marooned across the low-lying delta region, according to Bangladesh’s disaster management minister, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury.

Many of you on our humble online platform BCCB have indicated that you wish to donate and provide whatever assistance (no amount is too small), to help those are so desperately in need of it.  As a result of that, we've set this page up to help facilitate the donation collection so we can send this money to Bangladesh as soon as possible through our BCCB Bangladesh Chapter and other partner organizations that are trying to achieve the same aim.  Our goal is to ensure that 100% of your donation amount will be sent to the affected people.   Please note, that any administrative cost will be absorbed by BCCB's own funding.

Who are we?
BCCB, (Bangladeshi Canadian - Canadian Bangladeshi) is the Facebook branch of Bangladeshi Canadian Foundation (BCF), a not for profit foundation that is working tirelessly to make a significant impact in Canada and Bangladesh.  In less than a year over 15000 members joined the movement we call: Journey of Hope. BCCB is a platform, which strives to connect Bangladeshi Canadian citizens all over the Canada.

Next Steps?
In parallel, as we collectively raise funds, we are working with the Bangladesh Chapter of BCF to identify a credible charity organization that can help with the monetary distribution in Bangladesh to ensure the funding goes where it is required.  Once this charity has been properly vetted and identified, we will withdraw the donations that you have so generously provided and hand it over to the charity.  As one of our priorities for this initiative is transparency, we will strive to continuously update this page as we progress.

(Note: In Gofund Page: You will find a total of 16272. This is how it comes: ($740.60 +502.85 + $13568.55 + $1240.00 + $220.00 = 16,272)

As told to this forum before at the beginning of fund raising, we partnered with OCAS (An Organization I trust and worked twice before) who worked in Bangladesh to donate this found.
This was BCCB decision. The OCAS President is an honorary member of this forum.

We provided an update before in this matter.

We sent the following to Bangladesh.

Received from GoFund: $15028.55
Service Charge at CIBC: $50.00
Correspondence Charge: $40.00
Net Donation sent to Bangladesh through CIBC: $14938.55
Total $15028.55 (including Net sent to Bangladesh and processing fees )

In Bangladesh, we donated Tk 9,46,000/- which was sent to GS, OCAS. Out of this OCAS donated Tk 8,00,000 and Tk 1,46,000 was donated by Bangladesh Chapter.

So Net $14,938.55 was sent through CIBC on behalf of Bangladeshi Canadian Foundation.

Receipt given to Accounting Department of BCCB.

Note: In Phase 1, we told BCCB will not provide any tax receipt as we do have the ability from tax perspective (we do not have Charity Status, we are a not for profit only).

However, because of Go Fund an auto receipt is generated by the Go Fund that states that you (DONORS) donated this amount to us.

Note 2: As told to this forum, all administrative expenses for distribution of reliefs (in lacs) were absorbed BY OCAS for which we remain grateful. Not only that, OCAS added to the donation with their own amount.

Phase 2: Journey of Hope Concert:

1. We partnered with IDRF because of their package and ability to provide tax receipt. The package was: $45 will provide 30 days worth of food to a family of 5. We loved it.
2. We officially handed over the following amount to IDRF:
- $8,200 (this was fully for rohingya per DONORS wish). This amount was raised by Nadia Hasan.
- Net proceed from the Journey of Hope Concert was $7176.78. This came from ticket sell. This was donated on behalf of BCF, no individual name. As such no tax receipt from IDRF to be issued against anyone.

- For $7176.78, we handed over two Bank Drafts on behalf of BCF to IDRF as follows:

- $3589.39 for Flood Victims
- $3589.39 for Rohingya Refugees

This was our commitment to you where we floated a poll for you to allow us to donate 50% each to Flood Victims and Rohingya Refugees.

Tax Receipt:

1. All DONORS who asked for donation RECEIPT will get tax receipt. Some donated as Zakat and did not wish to get tax receipt.
2. We have sent the list of all names who requested tax receipt to IDRF.
3. For $7176.78 which is net proceed from the Journey of Hope Concert, no tax receipt will be given to anyone.
4. Under no circumstances, IDRF will give any tax receipt to any members of the Board of BCF.

So In total:

Dear BCCBians:

In 2017 you opened your heart and made a difference of ($14938.55 + $8200 + $7176.78) CAD $30,315.33 to help flood victims and rohigya refugees.

Last but not the least:

BCCB will remain open to any inquiry from any DONORS and will walk through every back up document if asked by them. This is our obligation because we remain grateful to the DONORS.

This is the FINAL update.
