On November 13, 2018 Banneker Blake Academy for the Arts and Sciences was selected as one of the five schools set to be closed in the district in June of this year. Despite the announcement, we still have the job of providing academic instruction and enrichment to the 190 scholars who walk through the doors of our building each day.
With that being said, the scholars at Banneker Blake Academy are in need of after school programming that is dedicated to enhancing their social and cultural responsibility; especially as black male youth in Baltimore City. Our Literacy and Entrepreneurship Club is set to begin on February 4th. The goal of this club is to create an avenue for scholars to explore culturally relevant text and to provide engaging and enriching activities that help shape their ideas for impactful change. Ultimately, we hope that this will empower scholars to think about viable ways to implement change in the communities they live in.
Our hope is that with your help, we can purchase copies of books, provide healthy snacks and take students to enriching events. We will continue to update you with photos and videos so that you know that your contribution has not gone to waste.
