Battle Brothers Inc. 501(c)(3) Battle Brothers Inc is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Austin, TX which was established in 2017 by a small group of students at Lake Travis Middle School.

Battle Brothers Inc. was founded  with the purpose of raising money for wounded warriors, domestic violence survivors and cancer patients to help pay for medical needs. We choose different people and their own cause and make it our battle and our inspiration, adopting their goal to help others achieve their goals, as well as try to change the world around us for the better – one race and one battle at a time.

This next race is The Spartan Sprint in Dallas, TX on October 28th and we are racing to raise $10,000 for Stephen Toboz Jr. (SEAL, retired) United States Navy.

Stephen “Turbo” Toboz was born on April 24, 1969, in Lock Haven, PA.  He graduated from Lock Haven High School Class 1987.  He joined the United States Navy in January 1991 after 3 years of college.  After graduating Electronic Technician ‘A’ School in Great Lakes, IL, he attended BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL) and graduated with Class 185 on December 18, 1992.

After BUD/S training, Petty Officer Toboz was assigned to multiple SEAL Commands.   His expertise includes Sniping, Close Quarters Battle, Breaching, skydiving, and combat closed-circuit diving.

PO Toboz has deployed to all parts of the world to include combat action in Bosnia and Afghanistan.  In March of 2002 during Operation Anaconda, PO Toboz served as a member of a special operations unit conducting combat operations against enemy forces in hostile territory.

During this operation to constrict the enemy, PO Toboz was a member of a six-man team that flew back into an enemy stronghold atop a 12,000-foot mountain in order to rescue a captured teammate.  Caught in automatic weapons crossfire upon insertion, Turbo immediately maneuvered against an enemy machine gun position engaging combatants until ordered to break contact by his team leader.  While withdrawing he was hit by automatic weapons fire which shattered his lower leg ultimately resulting in amputation at a later date.

Non-ambulatory and nearly hypothermic, he pushed through exhaustion and intense pain to maneuver over one kilometer through icy and precipitous terrain, refusing morphine in order to preserve his security posture.  His tactical expertise and courageous efforts significantly diminished the enemy fighters atop the mountain and contributed to their eventual defeat.

His personal awards include Silver Star for valor during Operation Anaconda on March 2002, Purple Heart, Navy Commendation with valor for operations in Bosnia, 2 Navy Achievement Medals, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Naval Unit Citation, and Meritorious Unit Citation, and many others.

On March 6, 2018, Mr. Toboz was diagnosed with Stage 3B Rectal Cancer discovered by an early colonoscopy.  He has undergone an initial 12-week treatment of intense Chemotherapy and was reassessed in June   2018 at MD Anderson Cancer Center of Excellence in Houston, TX.  Between treatments, Turbo is motivated to strive for excellence by attempting to qualify for the Paralympic Military Standard in the Road bicycle Time Trial in St. Petersburg, FL in July 2018.  Follow-on treatments include 6 weeks/30 sessions of combined directed-Radiation & Chemotherapy to shrink the tumor prior to surgery at a later date.  Post-surgery treatment will include an additional 12-week Chemotherapy treatment to rid the body of any lingering cancer cells.  Hopefully, all cancer cells will be destroyed by May 2019 and he can continue his live his life with his wife and 5-year old daughter.

Mr. Toboz endeavor is to make a difference/impact in the prosthetic world by helping as many wounded Veterans and Civilians as possible.  To date, he has affected over 50 amputees both by setting the example and venturing to keep moving forward both physically and mentally.  His ultimate goals are to become a member of the United States Paralympic Team in a road bike, air pistol, and/or air rifle.  Short term goals are to literally kick his cancer in the ass and keep a positive mindset and proactive lifestyle to keep motivated through the next two years.
