Bash fights Cancer
$24,165 of $2,000 goal
On December 30th we took Sebastian to emergency in Saskatoon for stomach pains, and early the next morning we recieved news that no parent wants to hear. Our tiny little baby has Cancer, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
In the blink of an eye life became uncertain, our futures were put on hold. Hopes and dreams became thoughts of the next moment, the next breath Sebastian would take, and the next hopeful piece of news.
That night the doctors sedated him, put in a breathing tube, and started him on dialysis to stabilize him. After three days of trying unsuccessfully to lower his white blood cell count, the decision was made to take an air ambulance to Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary to recieve treatment not available in Saskatoon. On January 8th Sebastian started chemotherapy treatments and began his battle with this disease.
So many have asked, “what can I do?” and we have been overwhelmed by the support from family and friends. We are so fortunate to have you all with us on our journey ahead.
We setup this gofundme page for those who want to help Sebastian battle this disease over the next few years. Life for Bash will never, ever be the same. The word Cancer will be with us forever. Your generosity, big or small, is a precious gift and will be treasured by our family.
In March after three months of chemotherapy treatments and many tough days we found out that the cancer was not in remission and our only option was a bone marrow transplant to get a cure. In April the search for a match started and by mid May we had found one. Two actually!
While we've been waiting for the bone marrow transplant process we continued to spend most days admitted in the hospital doing chemotherapy. Last week we received more good news that the cancer had finally been put into remission. This is the best we can hope for going into the transplant process which starts June 29th.
For the next few months we'll be in the hospital, but finally there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel. The bone marrow transplant will be extremely hard on Sebastian, but we are hoping he gets through it as well as he has done with the chemo so far.
Throughout all this Sebastian has been doing so well. He loves all the attention from the nurses and doctors and is such a happy baby. He loves to walk around and gets so excited when he sees any other small people. We can't wait until he can play with other kids and get back to normal life.
Terra has been writing a blog about our journey if you'd like to see what we've been up to, photo's, progress, and lots of other info -> http://bashfightscancer.blogspot.ca/
Thank you again to everyone who has donated to our family. It has far exceeded anything we imagined and has allowed us to be with Sebastian and focus on getting him through this. We are truly grateful.
Sebastian has been handling the chemo treatments really well, and his doctors are very pleased with his progress. He has a huge appetite and loves his ice cream! Seeing him doing so well has really helped us get through the last week and we wanted to share that with you.
Love to you all,
Terra, Nathan, and Sebastian
How wonderful to hear that little Bash is doing so well. His little smile is enough to melt my heart. Stay strong, Terra and Nate. I feel that your little angel will put up a good fight and all will be ok. I shall continue to keep you all in my prayers. xoxox
Happy to hear that he's doing good with the chemo.
Such good news. Thank you for the update.
My thoughts are with you Terra! Be strong little boy! ❤️
