Bambi's NYC Scholarship Fund

My name is Miambi and I'm from Ottawa Ontario. My passion is dance, and I'm on a mission to make it my career. I teach, I learn, I participate, and I volunteer in all dance activities that I can get my hands on. On the exception of when I am working to make a living, my time is consumed with dance.
This summer, as a result of my participation in a dance workshop in Toronto, I was awarded a scholarship to train at the Broadway Dance Centre in New York. This was offered to me by Candace Brown (an IDOL of mine). With the scholarship and the money I have managed to save up, I am still short of funds. The program is 3 months and requires that I demonstrate ALL training and living expenses are in my account before I can register, which is the reason I am seeking help here. I hope from the training, to learn things that I can bring back and will help enrich and further develop the dance community here in Ottawa.

A little (too much) about me:
I’ve always loved to perform but only started dancing in my early highschool years when I was introduced to Future Shock Ottawa, a non-profit youth team under the Culture Shock branch. Future Shock opened many doors and exposed me to other dance teams in Ottawa such as PNL , an independently run urban dance troupe offering affordable training, competition and performance experience (MY FAMILY). I also became involved with Culture Shock Ottawa a non-profit dance company that brings dance and Hip Hop to diverse audiences via professional entertainment, dance education, and community enrichment programs. Before discovering dance and joining FS, my life choices and experiences were not taking me where I wanted to go. Dance turned this around for me and helped me a lot through my teenage years in building relationships, self-confidence, and motivation. It gave me a whole new meaning to life. I was hooked. Most of us know how teenage years can have an impact on our lives, dance saved me.
I wanted more and in 2012 joined PNL. PNL triggered a whole new drive. Dance became my passion and I wanted IN on any opportunity I could get. I quickly started teaching and eventually choreographing pieces to be performed by the teams in which I was involved.
My life has since revolved around dance. I have been involved in the dance community as a teacher and volunteer at multiple studios and schools. I’ve competed, taken classes, choreographed, and danced in large events and shows. From my teenage days up till now, all of my training and travel away (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Los Angeles, and San Diego) has been at my own personal expense. Including classes in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Los Angeles. In addition to this I have organized and created new troops, and worked with youth, more often then not, as a volunteer. I am presently dancing in PNL and CS, Co-Directing PNL, Co-directing Future Shock Ottawa and I hope to continue on this path.
My dream is to train with the best there is, who are passionate and who can show me the path to a career in dance. It is my hope, wish, and aspiration to be successful and inspire others in Ottawa to pursue their passions as a career. Ottawa is filled with very talented dancers but sadly what is offered, though growing, is very limited for people who want to do it professionally. I want this to change and I want to be a part of that change! Anything I learn or discover, I will bring back to my city.
To change the world we must start with ourselves. My aim is to become a stronger, more experienced dancer, to assist in making a stronger professional dance scene in Ottawa.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I truly appreciate all the support!
