After a lifetime of service to country, community, family, and friends - I am Requesting Backup for retired Lt. David "Brad" Newell who was just diagnosed with stage 4 Kidney Cancer. My name is Kim. I am asking for your help for Brad who is not only one of my best friends, he is my big brother. I want him to be able to focus on himself and his family and not mounting medical bills.

Things are moving very quickly with the rapid progression of this awful disease. My goal is to raise $50,000 for Brad. Brad's health insurance does not go into effect until the first of the year. Even with insurance, the cost of the insurance and co-pays will be enormous. Brad had to resign his bailiff's position with Gem County reducing their monthly income. In the few days since he was diagnosed with cancer, the costs are already in the thousands of dollars with appointments and tests. We want to be able to help him cover these unforeseen expenses and loss of income as he fights this battle.

Me with my big brother fishing off the coast of Oregon May 2017.

Brad is that guy you hoped would drive by if you need help along the roadside. He will change your tire in the pouring rain on highway 16 between Emmett and Boise, or he will stop along the freeway when it is 102 degrees and give you a bottle of water to drink while you wait for a tow truck. He has served so many for so many years, I am hoping we can serve him and be there for him now. Brad always knew he wanted to be a police office. Graduating from high school at age 17 he was too young to go to work in law enforcement, so he joined the US Army in 1975. He served as a Military Police officer for 4 years prior to becoming a civilian police officer for over 33 years. Brad retired a few years ago, but went back to work part-time earlier this year as a court bailiff for Gem County, Idaho.

Today was the regular bi-monthly appointment. Lab work, seeing the doctor or NP, and Opdivo infusion. The new treatment seems to be "agreeing" with Brad better than the pills he took the first 2 months. He is not as sick and or nauseated. We should find out the middle to the end of June if this treatment is helping. We want to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and continued support along this difficult journey.

Brad had the first scan since starting Votrient, the target therapy drug prescribed. After 2 months, unfortunately the drug did nothing. The cancer continues to grow. Next week he will start a new target therapy drug that will be given by IV every 2 weeks. Hoping it will work for him. Please continue to share and donate if you are able. Thank you.
