Take BACK@YOU to the next level!

$1,505 of $4,000 goal

BACK@YOU  was created to help open people’s eyes to those that so many of us walk blindly by each day. The homeless are not invisible, and we should not act as if they don’t exist. We all deserve to be treated with dignity and kindness. No one is less of a person for not having a home. Guided by these principles, we fill backpacks with essential supplies and basic comforts, and our volunteers give out these backpacks for our homeless neighbors in St. Louis when the cold weather approaches. We make each of our backpacks to show its recipient that someone cares. They may be small gestures in the grand scheme of things, but they are filled with love. BACK@YOU is off to a good start as a Missouri nonprofit corporation. Now we need to take the next step and become a 501(c)3 certified charity so we can we can make a bigger impact. Your donation will help make that a reality. We are collecting only a small amount to pay the IRS filing fee and to cover a few other initial expenses. Being a 501(c)3 will open up new revenue streams and opportunities for our young organization. So please help us spread a little kindness. It might come right back at you!

A Great First Year, but the Best Is yet to Be!

October 10 was an amazing day for BACK@YOU and The Bridge Outreach! 50 volunteers started showing up at about 8:30 am to get ready for this event, and they were ready to give and overjoyed with what they received in return. Our volunteers worked hard giving personal care to each of our homeless neighbors as they picked out their scarf-adorned backpacks, had their names and emergency contact information written in the inside flap, and picked out warm hoodies from the wide array of sizes and colors. Within an hour, we had individually given out over 200 backpacks filled with essentials, and scarves handmade with love.

Everyone involved knew they were part of something special, but we found out that many others felt the same way. In the weeks preceding our distribution event, BACK@YOU received coverage in the St. Louis Post Dispatch, and our Founder and President, Kathy Acre, was interviewed on local TV stations KPLR and FOX2 and on KTRS 550 AM radio. During the week of the event, the nationally syndicated Bobby Bones radio show gave us a shout out, and BACK@YOU was covered by the Good News Network and even appeared on CNN. They say good news and deeds travel fast, and they were right!

Our goal next year is to distribute 400 backpacks, each filled with essentials and, of course, a scarf handmade with love, and we are already working on that, full speed ahead! It has been a great year and together we have accomplished a lot, but we have a feeling next year will show us we ain’t see nothing yet!

BACK@YOU is excited to announce that we are now partnering with Citypak Project. Citypak is a nonprofit organization that commissioned backpacks specially made for the homeless. High Sierra makes these amazing backpacks exclusively for Citypak Project and provides them for cost at $30. We have been lucky enough to be approved to receive 200 Citypaks for $15 apiece, with Citypak covering the other $15. Add these to the other backpacks we have collected and BACK@YOU may be able to hand out well over 200 backpacks to our homeless neighbors in October!

We are already halfway to our goal to make this happen. With your help, we will buy these backpacks and make sure they are filled with essential items, and of course our signature handmade scarves. Please, make a donation today and help us reach our goal! For a donation of $15, you will know you are truly making a difference in the life of a person living on the street. Our homeless neighbors are worth it, and they will be grateful that you gave!

Our last donation for our new goal came in ten very long days ago. We have so much to do and every single penny that is donated goes to help our homeless neighbors. Please, if you haven't donated, consider it. If you have already donated, please ask those that you know care, to give. BACK@YOU, and our friends living on the streets, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

This is such an inspiration. I keep "care packages" (gallon ziplock bag with toiletries and food) in my car to give to folks at intersections. But these packs, and the warmth supplies, are such a step up! Kudos.
