Jerico Immanuel's Medical Fund MNL
Baby Jerico's mom was referred to the UST Hospital because the doctors saw congenital anomalies in her 7th month scan. She went to UST on November 16 for her first checkup and was admitted on the same day. The doppler ultrasound showed that there was absent diastolic flow to Jerico. He was delivered by CS two days after.
On his first day of life, the doctors found out that he had an imperforate anus and had to undergo surgery. We were all worried and prayed hard that he make it. And he did. He now has a colostomy and will have another surgery when he turns one. Because of the surgery, he has to use a colostomy bag (price range 100-300/bag), each bag can be used for 3-5 days.
We brought a sample of Baby Jerico's blood to PGH for karyotype analysis. His congenital scan showed markers for Trisomy 21. It took 3-4 weeks before we got the result, and it confirmed that he has Down's Syndrome. We are sure that he will rock that extra chromosome.
He also has a congenital heart defect called PDA (Patent ductus arteriosus). From Wikipedia, "The ductus arteriosus is a fetal blood vessel that closes soon after birth. In a PDA, the vessel does not close and remains "patent" (open), resulting in irregular transmission of blood between the aorta and the pulmonary artery." This heart defect is causing him to have congestion in his lungs, making it difficult to breathe. He needs oxygen support until his PDA is closed. Baby Jerico needs to undergo another surgery (we don't know when yet), for his PDA.
He was born at 1.3 kgs and his pedia-neonatologist asked us to buy Human Milk Fortifier (50 sachets/box) to help baby gain weight faster. Baby Jerico gets fed 12 times a day, they use one sachet with each feeding. Each box which costs PhP 4,000 is only good for 5 days. We know that it works because he know weighs 2.14 kgs. Praise God!
Baby Jerico's medical expenses are way above our combined income. We have already depleted our savings and our immediate families contributed what they could.
We know that Baby Jerico is a fighter, imagine having to go through and survive surgery on your first day of life. One day, we will tell him his story. When he grows up, we will tell him that there is good in the world and that he should believe in the kindness of strangers.
Please consider making a financial gift to help pay for Baby Jerico's medical expenses. We also ask that you keep us and Baby Jerico in your prayers.
His CBC and another blood test (I forget what it's called) has improved. He has fever but they're already managing it. He's still sedated because their current setup works better that way. Although sedated, he's still active. He's still hooked to a mechanical ventilator but IV has been removed.
The doctors noticed that his stomach area has a different color than his upper body. They are hoping that it's nothing serious, because they can hear bowel sounds and his bowel movement is also normal. We even joked that it might just be a tight diaper or the hole on his colostomy bag is small.
Our running bill is already more than 100,000 pesos. He's been in the hospital for almost a week. We pray that he gets better everyday.
Thank you Lord for our prayer warriors and donors. God bless everyone.
Baby J is doing well. He is still very "malikot" and always removes his nasal cannula. Could this be a sign that he wants to be weaned already? smile emoticon He is also slowly gaining back his weight. His pedia gave him Cellife, it's a cellular nutrition supplement that we add to his formula. So far, we see that it works because he his legs and arms have more tone now, plus, his rib cage isn't too prominent anymore. Thank you, Lord.
His cardiologist asked us to just consume one of his cardiac meds, Captopril. Yay! However, it looks like baby really has to have surgery to close his PDA. The cardio said that it can be done from now until he's six months old. We're still going to talk about though, on his next checkup this April 26.
If the surgery pushes through, it's going to be done at the Philippine Heart Center and the cost of the package is 250,000 pesos if baby stays in the hospital for 5 days. We need your help in raising funds so Baby J can have surgery.
Thank you to everyone who continue to support us through prayers and financially.
There are days when we don't know where to get funds from but it is true that the Lord will provide because we suddenly receive messages from people saying that they deposited or remitted money to our account.
Praise God. He is good all the time.
We wanted to show you our setup at home for baby. See how big his oxygen tank is, haha, that's how paranoid we are. There's an IV set, it's an improvised feeding device kinda like an infusion pump. We have a suction machine and humidifier too. smile emoticon
When awake, his oxygen saturation is between 90-95 because he fights (sorry I couldn't find a better word) the ventilator. He has better numbers when he's asleep, because his breathing synchronizes with the machine.
I asked for the running bill and it's already at PhP 88,000 after two and a half days. Our health card will only cover PhP 85,000. We are again asking for your help as we go through this new battle. You can refer to the pinned post for ways to help our little fighter.
We will keep you posted.
Thank you and God bless us all.
Please pray that Baby J be healed by God's loving hands. Thank you!
