This campaign is to help Lt. Randal "Garrett" Spears. He was injured at 24 years old in combat training when he was struck by lightning at Ft. Hood in 2013. After two years of recovery and rehabilitation, he is finally home with his family.
As a veteran, Garrett qualifies for certain grants to help with is daily needs. Unfortunately, we are having trouble finding a contractor willing to remodel the downstairs bedroom and bathroom for him for the amount of money offered by the government. The family is in the process of "making do" for Garrett in a house not truly equipped to handle him and his wheelchair and his cognitive disabilities.
Monies raised through this campaign will supplement the VA grant for the remodel and addition in order to give our 26 year old son personal space and privacy a young man needs as well as be ADA compliant for his safety and well being.
This has been a two year process. The sooner funds are raised, the sooner we can pay a contractor to begin the addition for Garrett. ALL monies will go to build him his private bedroom and bathroom downstairs in his family home.
The only thing his mother wanted to do after almost losing him, was give him a room with this favorite things upon his homecoming. Two years later, we are still waiting. Any help is greatly appreciated and will add light to this adventure that has seem so dark.
Thank you for your consideration and/or donation.
