Hurricane María has left Puerto Rico devastated and facing a humanitarian crisis. This has greatly impacted the economic activity of the island, specially thousands of small businesses that make up more than 90% of all businesses in Puerto Rico. We are asking for your support to help these small businesses that were affected by Hurricane María.

All proceeds will help the local economy get back on its feet. According to FEMA, 40% of affected businesses don't reopen after a mayor catastrophic event. Also, small businesses are the largest source of job creation in the economy, affecting thousands of puertorrican families and further worsening the economic activity.

¿How will my donation be used? / ¿Cómo se va a utilizar mi donación?

Affected small business owners will fill out a detailed application to qualify for a maximum of $2,000.00 from the raised funds. We hope to be able to impact at least 80 local small businesses, who are currently closed or who are struggling to even stay open. Funds will be assigned and disbursed as the campaign is up and running by a committee who will identify the candidates that meet the necessary requirements. The funds will be disbursed as cash to the selected businesses by Alessandra Correa, founder of INPRENDE.

How can I make sure my donation will be put to good use?

An expert committee on financing and business administration will be selecting the qualified businesses for funds. Some of the criteria used in the selection process includes:
- Damage to equipment, retail or office space
- Loss due to damaged inventory and raw materials
- Employments and families impacted
- Intended use of funds

In addition, we will follow up with the small businesses to report the use of funds and current status. This campaign will remain active until November 2017 and will continue to disburse funds during these following months.

Hi!

INPRENDE would like to thank YOU for supporting our #PRSmallBizRecovery campaign. Your donation helped us impact an awesome, creative, and almost-fallen-down small business.

We are talking about Double Cake Baking Studio, a creative bakery located in San Juan, Puerto Rico, which was about to close operations after Hurricane Maria affected the island on September 20, 2017.

This hurricane resulted in great loss of inventory for the store, no electricity to cook their big-acclaimed products, loss of sales, and almost having to close operations.

However, with creativity and an entrepreneur mindset, they found a way to find a borrowed kitchen to operate, create, and sell products that didn't need big use of electricity or gas. This allowed them to generate new sales for more inventory, and pay their employees (whose hours had to be reduced in almost a 90%!).

They were, of course, losing money and in the best of scenarios, breaking-even for not having enough inventory to supply their demand.

With your donation, INPRENDE was able to hand them a check of $1,600 for new inventory.

We know that $1K are not enough to fix such devastated businesses, and that is why our company is donating them hours of consulting for the management of these funds, and other financial strategies. We are also connecting them with other organizations who provide aid for small businesses in Puerto Rico.

We are certain that this is the beginning step for this business to recover and be as wonderful as they were before. INPRENDE is sure that many other organizations in the island will follow our lead and continue to help small local businesses recover.

Hugs from Puerto Rico.
