AUS Youth Ultimate Championships

HELLO ALL!

My name is Jimmy. I am 16 years old, and I am currently representing the Victorian U18 Men's Ultimate Team - Bandicoots in the Australian Youth Ultimate Championships (AYUC), which is currently being held in Adelaide on the 7th - 9th July.

ABOUT ME:
This is my first time representing  Victoria in Frisbee, which I am very grateful to be selected and allowed to represent my state in a sport that I am most passionate about.  My 'Ultimate' dream is to proceed on playing for Victoria and hopefully, represent Australia in the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF), as that is currently the top level of this sport. 

This is extremely important to me because this experience will not only be a fantastic opportunity for my sporting career but allow me to gain an experience of a lifetime, as I can use this experience to share with others in my community. I am currently pushing to make Ultimate Frisbee a common sport here in our community. At my school, I am currently a part of running frisbee clinics for physical education classes, which is aimed at introducing the sport to students.

Ultimate Frisbee has been officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and has high hopes in becoming an Olympic sport in 2020 or 2024. 

WHAT IS 'ULTIMATE FRISBEE'?
Ultimate is a non-contact team sport played with a flying disc (Frisbee). 
It combines elements of netball, touch football, and grid-iron into a fast-paced, athletic sport.

Competitions usually have co-ed teams, where men and women play together and have separated teams.

It is unique because the sport is self-refereed - due to the 'Spirit of the Game', players are responsible for adhering to and overseeing the rules themselves.

FUNDING: 
Ultimate is a self-funded sport, so meaning the team is supported and funded by the investments of the athletes. My current fee is $600 to attend the tournament. This includes:
- Uniform
- Transport
- Accommodation (Hotel, Food, etc)
I am contributing $100 myself and aiming to raise $500. This money would be a MASSIVE HELP to me as I couldn't possibly afford this on my own!
