Awake Youth April Teen Retreat Fund

Donation protected
On April 29th and April 30th, the Brooklyn based Awake Youth Project (AYP) will be hosting its first ever youth meditation and mindfulness retreat, “Free to Be Me”.  As the first group of Peer Leadership Trainees , we have benefitted from experience on retreats out of state, and are very excited to be a part of bringing a retreat to our friends and community in Brooklyn.

A youth meditation and mindfulness retreat is an engaging experience that offers the chance to immerse ourselves in meditation practice (sitting, walking meditation, Metta/kindness sits, etc.), as well as honest and safe discussions, small group workshops, wisdom talks, and other interactive activities that help build an awareness of ourselves and others.

The Awake Youth community and guest teachers supporting the retreat will offer a non-judgmental, kind, supportive, and accepting space for all participants to lean into vulnerability, honesty, and love.

In order to ensure that all interested teens are able to participate, we need your support in providing ten teens across the New York City area with scholarships to attend this retreat.

These ten scholarships will cover:

* Retreat registration fees at $130 per teen
* Four organic tasty meals, plus healthy snacks
* Subway fare to and from the retreat on Friday and Saturday
* Any additional expenses and supplies

Past retreats have had a wonderful impact on our lives and have inspired us to deepen our practice and to share the benefits of meditation and mindfulness with others. As Peer Leadership Trainees we have entered a two year training program that allows us to learn skills to facilitate guided meditations, small group discussions and other mindfulness techniques.

Meet the team of Peer Leaders:

Cohen: "Meditation has been a great chance for me to understand how to build a peaceful mindset to address my thoughts and emotions."

Armani: "Learning how to understand how my emotions take place within my body has given me the chance to be with my mind and body in better harmony"

Richardson: "Before I started meditating, I would be overcome with anger and frustration quickly. Now, I have the chance to make a choice about how I react to my life and environment."

With your assistance we will extend this experience to our other lovely friends.
