On February 10, 2018, our beloved Ayesha Riaz unexpectedly passed away shortly after giving birth to a baby boy named Eesa Ali Ahmad. Unfortunately, Ayesha went under septic shock from a Group A streptococcus (GAS) bacterial infection while she was at Markham Stouffville Hospital. It has come to the realization that the GAS infection was hospital-acquired. The circumstances surrounding her passing are currently under investigation and the family is pursuing legal action.

Ayesha was only 24 years old and was just starting her new journey as a mother with her loving husband and family.

Ayesha had the most contagious giggles, was never too busy to check-in on friends and family, and always went out of her way to help everyone in even the most mundane things. In every interaction she had with people, she left a memorable feeling in their hearts. Ayesha loved life!

A recent University of Toronto graduate, she was also known to family and friends as a strong, kind, and empathetic woman. Ayesha was active in serving her community as she recently volunteered at Sunnybrook Hospital and tutored children in her neighbourhood. Ayesha was a strong believer in social justice and the empowerment of women in every part of the world.

Ayesha's family are currently seeking legal action to get answers and justice. Although we will never be able to bring Ayesha back, the family wants to ensure that this never happens to anyone ever again. We estimate that the cost of legal action will be in the hundreds of thousands ($100,000+) and we are seeking your support in the form of donations to support the family in their pursuit. Our initial goal is to raise $25,000 CAD.

In addition, Ayesha had the desire to pursue empowerment projects and we would like to continue her legacy. In memory of Ayesha, 10% of the funds raised will go towards building water wells in communities across Pakistan that lack safe drinking water. The funds will go directly towards buying materials and labour work to build the water wells, hiring member(s) of the community to oversee the maintenance of the wells, and sustaining the project for the long-term. We will post pictures and updates of the project to show the difference your contributions have made.

With your generous support, together we will get justice for Ayesha.
