Awstin’s Journey for SDR Surgery
Awstin is a very funny, caring, loving and very determined little boy but sadly he has been diagnosed with Spastic Diplegia Celebral Palsy, which is a neurological issue that affects Awstins mobility. Thankfully the damage that has occurred can’t get any worse, but his mobility isn’t likely to get any better without intensive Physio Therapy and significant medical support. If this does not occur the likelihood is that Awstin will need future painful operations and will quite possibly be in a wheelchair. We want to try and stop this happening, although the SDCP is incurable, there is an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, SDR for short that can significantly reduce the risk of this and better his life and mobility, which will help him to walk better unassisted and be in a lot less pain, if no pain at all.
The younger Awstin is to have this operation the better the results and of course the chance of him enduring the painful operations in the future.
This operation is unfortunately not available on the Nhs in wales and so we have to get the funds for the operation and aftercare ourselves.
