This will be one of the last events at Awful House. First, we would like to thank The Kansas City Anti-Violence Project and the Anarchist Black Cross KC, for their efforts in legitimizing this event as a resource for information beyond only a discotheque. Second and foremost, we would like to thank every single person who has walked through our doors for giving us the opportunity to contribute both a platform for poor and disenfranchised voices, and an environment where we can engage in the conversation about the potential and tangible uses of the community-operated space. We are sad to have to let this place go, but we are thankful for how much we have gotten to learn, the most important and the most comforting lesson being that this was simply an exercise in an already occurring global communalization of efforts, and that this community will always continue as it was, as long as there is one space left. This festival is our last ditch effort to do what any venue in 2018 should be doing: to attempt to actualize the liberative potential of the social gathering, and to ensure the voices and venues after ours might follow suit.
(Donations go towards ensuring transportation assistance for every artist and paying off pending Awful House fees, and the remainder will go towards distributing outreach and assistance resources for the ABCKC and KCAVP at local venues.)
