Avril’s Golden Jersey

August 28, 2017 our lives changed forever.  Our daughter, Avril, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.  Avril was immediately admitted to the hospital for an emergency blood transfusion.  The following day she had surgery to have her port placed for her IV injections she will received over the next 2 years.  She started her chemo treatments while in the hospital which consisted of IV chemo and an oral steroid.   Once we were discharged from the hospital we would return weekly over the next 7 months for count checks, IV chemo and lumbar punctures.   The first few weeks of treatment were extremely overwhelming and emotional as Avril hated to take off her shirt for port access.  It was a complete nightmare until my sister found her a chemo shirt where she would be able to have her port accessed without having to remove her shirt.  This shirt was a big game changer; not having to take off her shirt made Avril feel like she was in charge.  

Avril’s goal is to get a chemo shirt for all the children at Blank Children’s Hospital who are battling cancer.  Blank treats an average of 125 kids a week(some children are there multiple times a week or their treatments are administered in patient for numerous days).  We are wanting to raise money for 600 shirts(approximately $12,000)
