Avaya’s story:
My 3 year old niece, Avaya, is the youngest of her 6 siblings. While normally a healthy child, Avaya developed complications from influenza B and spent 4 weeks at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
For 3 weeks she was intubated and heavily sedated. She was put into a medically induced coma to allow her body to rest. We weren’t able to see her beautiful brown eyes or contagious smile. While at Children’s, her lung collapsed twice and she fought hard for her life. We came close to losing our princess at least two times.
While her family has a high deductible medical plan, they are unsure what exactly will be covered. It is estimated that her medical care will cost over $1 million.
Our faith:
My sister, Anita, and her husband, Cedric, along with our extended family have been amazed at how God has worked in Avaya’s life. Through social media, thousands of family, friends and strangers were able to follow Avaya’s journey. The prayers of so many were felt by the family and we believe it was the power of prayer and the grace of our savior, Jesus Christ, that saved her life.
2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Isaiah 40:28-31, “Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
