On August 17, 2015 Austyn Halter was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia AML-M7. She was treated at Texas Children's for 9 months and after the 6th round of chemo, she failed to reach remission. In May, her family was given news that her leukemia had actually gotten worse. On may 15th, she was flown to st. Jude children's research hospital & testing began. After 2 weeks of testing, her parents were told that Austyn was eligible for the HAP-NK1 transplant research study, and her mom was going to able to be her donor. Her family celebrated her "new birthday" (first day of Mommy's stem cell transfusion) June 9th, 2016. Austyn has had a rough couple of weeks but is getting stronger everyday! She is DAY +13 post transplant today, and we received the exciting results that Austyn's Chimerism in her blood shows 99.83% Of Mommy's cells! St. Jude is the only hospital that offers this study, and Austyn was the 30th person ever to have this type of transplant. On Dec 6, 2016 just 6 months after the transplant Austyn's family was givin devastating news. The cancer has returned. On Dec. 13th 2016 Austyn received her 1st of 10 rounds of chemo. We are praying hard that God will rid this baby of the disease in Austyn's body. Please adopt this family as your own this Christmas. We want to help ease the financial burden this holiday season.

Day +365. One year ago today, at 3:59pm,
Austyn received my stem cells and a long awaited chance at a CURE. It's been the hardest year of our life. We have watched our baby suffer in ways that one simply cannot imagine, but our baby is still here. And she's still fighting. No, this is not in a million years what I pictured a year post transplant to be like, but I'm beyond thankful for one more year with our baby.

Austyn had 30-40% leukemia detected in her bone marrow when she was admitted to transplant, and Dr Triplett told us from the very beginning that it wasn't a matter of "if" she would relapse, but "when" she would relapse post transplant. We were hopeful that she would prove him wrong. Austyn achieved remission for nearly six months, and her team was amazed. This journey has tested our faith, our marriage, our strength, our patience and so much more...yet we have witnessed many miracles along the way, and have never let our fear become greater than our HOPE and TRUST in God and His perfect plan.

Austyn is wise beyond her years, and has had to endure pure hell day in and day out for the last two years, and especially over the last year. I can't tell you the feeling I get watching her fight so hard everyday. I'm proud, I'm sad, I'm angry all at the same time. I've been very anxious about today, but just as before, we refuse to let the devil steal an ounce of our happiness that we have with with that being said, we will celebrate today and not be sad. We will celebrate the last 365 days that God has allowed us to have with Austyn. Happy "new" birthday, and one year post transplant to our brave & beautiful little miracle girl. #austynstrong
