Australian Handball Olympic Dream

The Australia men’s handball team is heading to Qatar on the 14th of November to compete in the Asian Championships for a spot at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The last appearance of an Australia handball team at the Olympics was in Sydney in 2000, where the squads were directly qualified as hosts.

Now the team needs your help to make our Olympic dream come true!

Every little bit helps!
Unlike most other sports in Australia, handball is not funded by the government or the Olympic committee, which means not a single dollar for national teams or club infrastructure.

As a result, players and staff of the national team have to pay for their own expenses, from playing gear and balls to airfares and accommodation when travelling for training camps or international events. Australia is also an entirely amateur team, which means all of our players juggle full-time work or study with training and funding their passion for handball and its development in our region.

This is where YOU can help. Every little donation counts and will go a long way towards relieving that financial pressure from the team and helping the Green & Golds make history!

What's all this money for?
Travelling half way around the globe for a group of 16 players and five staff (coaches, manager, physiotherapists, etc.) comes at a cost. The bulk of funds raised will go directly to airfares and accommodation for the Asian Qualification tournament.

So far, thanks to your overwhelming reponses we've managed to bring the amount to be paid by each player from $6000 down to $4000. This is a great achievement but still a significant lump sum of money..

The remaining cost breakdown (per player) is now:

Flights to Doha: $1,400
Accommodation in Doha (14-27 November)   : $2,600

For a  delegation of 16 players, this represent a total of $64,000.

While we could have set the campaign limit to that amount, we've decided to setlle on a more realistic figure first hoping more people would rally to our cause

Wear the green and gold jersey is a privilege and not something our players take lightly. Regardless of what the odds are for our Aussie Crocs to make it to Rio, they will leave their heart on the court and will fight until the very last minute, hoping to make YOU and Australia proud.

If you would like to go the extra mile and receive a piece of Handball Australia memorabilia, take a look at the rewards further down the page.

If you cannot contribute financially, we also appreciate moral support in the form of social media posts. Be sure to use our hashtag #thecrocsarecoming and share this GoFundMe page with family and friends.

Thank you all for supporting the team on this amazing journey!

Increased sponsorship opportunities:

In light of the positive response to the chance to act as a sponsor for the Aussie Crocs, we are adding two new packages to our campaign:

1 x Gold Package with logo placement on front of jersey
3 x Bronze Packages with logo placement on sleeve OR shorts

Remember, every Euro, pound and dollar counts, so whether you can afford to donate $6000 or 60 cents, you contribution goes a long way in helping our athletes fulfill their dream of competing for a place at the 2016 Olympic Games.

The playing strip is already looking great with the logos of donors received. We hope you will help us to make it even more exciting!

Thank you all for your unconditional support!

We have been overwhelmed by the generous response to our campaign, led by our two biggest donors so far: 2015 IHF Super Globe champions and 2015 EHF Cup winners Fuchse Berlin, and Urs Akeret, owner of Zurich-based advertising agency artischock.net. Every single Aussie dollar, Euro or Pound counts, and we have been thrilled to see our initial campaign goal reached so soon.

But we are not done yet! Costs per player have been reduced (from $6000 to $4000) but there is still a long way to go to relieve the financial pressure on our athletes and help the Aussie Crocs put their best foot forward in November.

Based on the generosity experienced so far, we have reset our campaign goal and hope the international handball family will help us on our journey.

The current costs per player, factoring in money raised so far are:

Flights to Doha: $1,400
Accommodation in Doha: $2,600
------------------------------------------
Total Cost per Player: $4000

Once again, thank you all for your unconditional support and generous donations.
