$15 could buy José his new reason to come to school on Friday.
$15 could buy Florence warmth for her one mile walk to school.
$15 has the potential to make life exponentially better for a student in your community.
Located in the Emerson-Garfield neighborhood of Spokane, WA, lies the greatest group of kids north of the Spokane River...the Audubon Eagles!
The students at our school work hard to learn and grow every day despite the many challenges they face outside of the building. We serve a fluctuating population of 450-475 students at our Title 1 supported school. 83.5% of our students receive free or reduced meals, fresh fruits and vegetables are provided for snack once per day, and 40 families get bags of food to take home over the weekend. Food insecurity is prevalent in our neighborhood, and our school and community members have (clearly) done a lot to help decrease the weight of that insecurity.
One problem seems to be too easily forgotten in the realm of supporting high-need schools: clothing.
We're trying to fix that.
With sweatshirts.
And t-shirts.
The clothing you’re funding has tangible and metaphorical value in the lives of the Audubon Family.
1. Spokane is cold. Sweatshirts keep kids warm.
2. Establishing a more positive school culture via “Spirit Wear Fridays” falls in line with Spokane Public Schools’ philosophical shift towards a more comprehensive view of student behavior. When students view their school as a place of community and support, they are more likely to reach out for help as opposed to acting out as a sign of needing help.
Contributing to this fund could simply add two pieces of clothing to each student’s wardrobe, or it could provide a paradigm shift into making Audubon a more life-giving community for all involved. Each of those outcomes is enormous, so please consider donating.
We appreciate your time and value your commitment to this community!
