As many of you know, I have just finished the first semester of my second year at the University of Oklahoma. Earlier this year, I officially declared a major in International Studies and a minor in Spanish. I was accepted to the accelerated 5-year BA/MA program in International Studies, so I will graduate with both my bachelor's and master's degrees in May 2018. I am also part of the College of International Studies (CIS) Leadership Fellows program (LEAF).
I recently received the exciting news that I have been accepted to Washington and the World, a program sponsored by OU's CIS. The program consists of a trip to Washington, DC during spring break. On this trip, I will have the opportunity to explore DC, observe work in the NGO and government sectors, and network with OU alumni and other individuals who will be able to provide me with a wealth of knowledge and career guidance.
My degree also requires me to spend at least one semester abroad. Next year, during the Spring 2016 semester, I am planning to travel to a Spanish-speaking country to fill this requirement and achieve deeper fluency in Spanish. At this point, my top two countries of consideration are Uruguay and Peru; Spain is also an option.
Should you choose to donate, I can assure you that the money will be spent responsibly. My expenses for the DC trip will primarily be for my airfare, as well as travel and meal expenses when in the city. The remaining money will go towards OU fees, insurance, travel costs, and other miscellaneous expenses during my time abroad.
I am incredibly excited about both of these opportunities and have been very lucky to receive some financial aid; however, I still need more funding to make both of these trips a reality. I decided to start this campaign in order to help myself remain financially responsible and avoid taking out student loans to pay for my trips, and also to share my plans with my friends and family. I'm deeply grateful to anyone who decides to contribute, but I'm also incredibly thankful to everyone who shares this page, even if you are unable to donate! Whether or not you're in a position to donate, rest assured that my travels to DC and abroad will come with plenty of postcards, photos, and stories of me doing silly things and eating a lot of really great food all over the world.
