Assistance with vision expenses

$1,260 of $1,000 goal

Raised by 34 people in 1 month
Most of you visiting this page know me as “Rho” or Brian Black.

Several weeks ago I encountered my first ever eye infection. It was diagnosed as a viral infection, and I incurred medical costs of approximately $600.
While I had money saved at the time in a vacation fund to pay for the doctor’s visits and medicine I needed, it appears the infection is making a return and will likely require additional visits and prescriptions.
I don’t have medical insurance. For most of my life it’s been difficult to justify the costs of insurance as a lower class worker.

Disclosure on my income and expenses:
My day job is an assistant manager position with a convenience store and my weekly take home is roughly $350/week.
Roughly $200 of that goes to bills, $60 towards work transportation, and $60 for food and incidentals, with $30 per week having been placed aside to pay for vacation or leisure expenses. Obviously that latter $30 of late has been diverted toward my medical needs instead.

In regards to vacation: previous vacation funds prior to this eye infection were spent to  cover room and transportation in November. I’m mentioning that here so that people understand I’m not asking for vacation funds. That trip is already paid for.

Costs:
Each eye doctor visit costs $80.
The medications I expect I’ll be placed on total about $300 for two weeks worth of medication. This already takes into account discounts I’ll be able to obtain online to help on costs.
Assuming five doctors visits and four weeks of medication, that comes out to my goal of $1,000.

It has taken a bit of pride swallowing to ask for this help, and to be honest I’m keeping my expectations very low. I really would rather not go this route, but I was also reminded not long ago that one shouldn’t be ashamed or embarrassed to admit a need for help.

Any support is appreciated beyond words, even if that support is simply spreading the word.
Thank you.

Just got out of Parschauer eye center.
According to the doctor, what I’m experiencing after the initial viral infection in my left eye is a part of the aftermath of it, and not a recurrence. My left eye isn’t producing tears as much as it used to, and the infection is NOT actively present.
The doctor instructed me to take over the counter artificial tears 3-4 times a day even when I feel I may not need them.
The good news is that currently I will not need to purchase the medication I anticipated I would have to. Foreseeable expenses include the drops and a return visit in a month.
Once again, I cannot thank every one of you enough that showed support. The money not used for follow up visits and drops is currently being set aside in a savings account in case this infection does in fact return, which the doctor advised is a possibility.
That being said, I’m willing to return any donations that any of you have made. Please message me via GoFundMe if you’d like to request as such.
I appreciate your kindness. Ultimately, this whole experience has shown me the world is a less lonely place than I felt it was.’

Sincerely,
Brian/Rho

Thank you again for your support, especially with all the support that has been received after the goal was hit. As I mentioned previously, anything not used for this current issue will be saved for any future medical emergency that might come up.

The irritation in my eye from the infection is most noticeable when I wake up in the morning, but it's not currently debilitating. As soon as I noticed it in this early stage I took steps to get an appointment set up at Parschauer Eye Center here in Sandusky. They'll be taking a look at it on Monday morning. I'm expecting I'll likely be prescribed the same meds I had before, assuming it's the same issue.

The initial funds won't be received until as late as next Wednesday, but thanks to your support I can comfortably use funds from this week's paycheck to handle my visit and medication costs on Monday if the initial deposit hasn't been made by then.

Once again, thank you for everything you've done to assist me. I'm humbled by the outreach. <3

11 hours after I created this page, your tweets and your generous kindness have helped me reach the goal I set.

I can't begin to express how thankful I am to everyone who donated and/or assisted in spreading the word.

This is the first (and I really hope only) time I've used gofundme. I'm not entirely sure if it allows donations beyond the goal point. Should that be the case, know that all money donated here will go toward remedying the infection in my left eye. Any remainder will be set aside in the event of any future incidents.

I'm overwhelmed by your kindness and well wishes. I hope beyond hope that I find myself in a position to do the same for one or more of you in the future.

Thank you,

Brian/Rho

If you would have told me I'd be halfway to the goal I set this soon, I'd say you were nuts.
So, you're all nuts... but in the most wonderful way.
I'm humbled by the outreach, not just from those I recognize but also others whom I've interacted very little with, if at all.
You're my heroes today. Thank you.
