Donations for Trask family

On Monday, February 26th, we lost a true friend of Port Richmond.  Jay (John) Trask (age 43) passed away suddenly and tragically.  To those who were lucky enough to know Jay, it's been heartbreaking.  To know Jay is to love him.  The big guy had the heart of a big teddy bear.  His big smile and laugh lit up the neighborhood for years.  He was a fixture in the Riverwards community for 40+ years.

So many of us, especially our kids, were blessed to have Jay step up and volunteer in coaching various sports at different levels for so many boys and girls, even some adults.  Whether it be boy's baseball or basketball, some football, or maybe it was girl's softball teams, Jay so often gave his time and dedication to help change kids' lives.  He was all over Port Richmond, Fishtown, Bridesburg, all the way up to Parkwood.  He played lots of softball in the area as well.  Jay was so selfless when it came to others.

Throughtout his life, Jay was always there to serve the community.  He helped so many.  Whether it be someone with an illness, someone who suffered losses of possessions through various tragedies, or those affected by a death, Jay was always there to lend a helping hand.  He could be found selling t-shirts, publicizing beef n beers, running tickets, and donating to various local fundraisers and charities.

The most important things to Jay were his beautiful children.  Jay was a family man, and Andrew, Dennis, John and Patrick were at the forefront of his love and passion.  He was an amazing father, looked up to by so many.

Unfortunately, in these times of sudden loss, it's those left behind who suffer the most.  Sadly, his family, but especially his children, will no longer have their father. And that's a cross no kid should have to carry.  Money will never bring him back.  However, in these desperate times, money will help take care of costs associated with the funeral.  But it will also assist with the boys' education and other expenses currently and in the near future.

Thus, as a tribute to Jay, and in gratitude to all he has done for the community over the past few decades, I am reaching out to his friends, family and acquaintances to help ease the financial burden on the family, and to help make feasible continuing education for his boys.  Take a moment and put yourself in the places of his mother, grand mom, sister, brother and ex-wife.  Or imagine these are your kids.    In Port Richmond, our forte is that we step up and band together as a community to lift our fellow neighbors after they've fallen or suffered.  Please consider making a nice donation to help the family, but most of all please consider his kids!! Every bit helps!!

Thank You!
