Assistance for Liam's Family

Donation protected
To say Liam was a surprise would be an understatement but to Sean and Katie he was the best surprise that could have come. They quickly fell in love with him and began their preparations for his arrival. With every ultrasound picture and movement their love for him grew more and more…

However, in May 2018 at 6 months pregnant, they learned of complications followed by devastating news. It all began with the discovery of a dilated Superior Vena Cava. The doctors at first had determined that this was not a serious issue, but wanted to keep a close eye on it. A few weeks later, after further investigation, doctors found the root of the issue and it was much more serious than they had ever expected.

Liam was found to have a Vein of Galen brain aneurysm, which is a very rare abnormality.  There have only been about 20 reported cases in the United States; less than a 1% chance of occurrence.  This condition was causing fluid to drain down into his major organs including the heart and stomach. He was initially given a very small percentage of survival, but after close evaluation, it was determined that Liam’s heart was going to fail with no available options. Katie was faced with two options at that point: termination or allowing him to die naturally. After many heart felt conversations and doctor evaluations, it was decided that the latter would be the best option for both Katie and Liam.

For weeks Liam’s condition worsened and worsened and Katie became sicker and sicker, but Katie would treasure every kick and movement knowing that these were the only moments she would experience with her son. On Friday, July 20th during a routine appointment, Katie was found to have developed Preeclampsia and Mirroring Syndrome. It was determined that it was no longer safe to Katie’s health to continue with this pregnancy and was induced.

After over 48 hours of labor, Liam Michael Ryan was stillborn on July 22, 2018.

Forever in our hearts this angel will be.

“You Were born silent.

Perfect and beautiful.

Still loved.

Still missed.

Still Remembered.

Everyday.

Stillborn.

But Still born.”

Katie and Sean are now faced with the reality of burying their first born son. Though the families have come together to help assist with the costs associated with this, we are asking for further assistance with funeral costs and medical bills. A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to Boston Children’s Hospital for research and study of the condition that Liam suffered from.

Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. We ask for respect and peace for the family who is dealing with this devastating loss.
