Seth and Becca Mallay, along with their five children, have been serving the Lord as medical missionaries since 2015 in Togo, West Africa where Seth is a Family Doctor providing compassionate medical care to the poor and sick. Just before Christmas 2017, the Mallay’s oldest daughter Arwen (10 years old) developed unusual pains in her neck, back, and legs and underwent some simple testing in Togo. The early tests showed a mass in her abdomen, so she was urgently sent back to Michigan for further evaluation and treatment at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. Unfortunately, the evaluation has shown that Arwen has Stage 4 Neuroblastoma in her pelvis that has already spread to her spine and hip bones.
Neuroblastoma is a cancer of nerve cells and is the most common type of solid tumor outside of the brain in children. Stage 4 is the most advanced stage of the disease and requires long and aggressive treatments. The Mallays have been told to expect at least 2 years of treatments involving chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and a probable stem cell transplant.
Since Arwen’s journey first began, there has been an overwhelming outpouring of support for her and the Mallay family. We would love to continue to show our support for the Mallays as they face the many hurdles ahead. Prior to moving to Africa as medical missionaries, the Mallays sold their house, their cars, and most of their possessions. In the process of urgently leaving Togo, they were forced to leave many of their personal belongings behind yet again. As the family transitions back to the United States for Arwen's cancer treatments, they will face many immediate tangible needs such as finding and furnishing a new house and securing a vehicle large enough for a family of seven. We have created this page to help offset some of these relocation and medical expenses as they focus on Arwen’s journey with neuroblastoma. Please consider donating to this urgent need and please pray for Arwen, her family, and the medical teams caring for her. We continue to trust in God’s provision, goodness, and power as we walk through this journey with Arwen.

Thank you so much to everyone who wanted to help buy or donate household items to the Mallays during their time of transition. They have created an Amazon WishList for anyone who is interested in helping in this way: http://a.co/cnxF9PJ
Please continue to pray for Arwen as she returns to the hospital today to begin chemotherapy. Pray for Elora, Caspian, and Gwyn as they are staying with extended family. Pray for Seth & Becca as they guide their family down this unknown road. We serve a God who is able!
There has been an unbelievable outpouring of love and support for the Mallays over the last few days through prayers, donations, and offers for help. Thank you to everyone who has so generously contributed and to all who are lifting Arwen up in prayer. We truly serve the Jehovah Jireh - the God who provides!
"This God—his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him." (Psalm 18:30)
Once the fundraising goal has been met we will continue to accept donations to help offset future medical expenses, so please feel free to continue donating if you haven't yet had a chance to do so. For everyone interested in donating household items, we will be able to better direct you in the coming days or weeks once the Mallays determine where they will be living.
For anyone interested in sending gift cards, the Mallay's favorite restaurants include Culver's, Applebees, Bob Evans, and Hungry Howie's. They could also use gift cards to Meijer (grocery story) or gas stations for the frequent drives to the hospital. If you need their mailing address, please feel free to contact us here for more details.
Finally, we are happy to report that Arwen has been discharged from the hospital to spend the weekend at home with her family! She will return to the hospital early next week for additional tests and the start of chemotherapy. Thank you for your continued prayers to our God who is faithful and true!
