Hello North Nashville family, friends, and community,

Most of you know about Art History Class Lifestyle Lounge and Gallery. This piece of North Nashville Culture sits on Jefferson street across the way from Knockout Wings has been providing this community with a space that serves as a "living museum" and gallery, a community gathering space, and a space that attracts visitors and residents to fellowship and learn from North Nashville’s rich HBCU history for the past decade. Art History Class LLG is said to be a “place for the people". Exhibiting the area’s local art, while also providing students a platform to showcase their art, and serving as a community epicenter for the disenfranchised area. Art History Class LLG has grown to be a true gem in our community.

Due to rising capacity, Art History Class is transitioning from its space on Jefferson Street and expanding its programming to reach more of its North Nashville neighborhood. After crafting the Gallery’s traditional African American artistic aesthetic, and hosting over thousands of guests from all over the world, Art history Class LLG is looking to open its possibilities to further enrich the community by providing artist-in-residence opportunities, developing youth specified programming, and incorporating a new space that will continue as the living museum and gallery for North Nashville.

Even if you have been able to support Art History Class LLG by purchasing a painting or not, you have almost certainly benefited from what this organization does in this community rather it be the Wine and Whiskey Social that brings together communities from different walks of life, or to the 2nd Soul Cinema which educates and entertains guests during an outdoor cinema experience. Or maybe you've undoubtedly wandered by this magical place and been in awe of the books, the art, historic memorabilia, and other treasures within this gallery.

Art History Class LLG is one the top contributors to the North Nashville community. This organization is dedicated to the perseveration of the rich heritage of the communities surrounding these HBCU’s past as well as adapting to the social and economic changes of the future. Art History Class is in a class of its own in terms of mission and drive by creating programming primarily to reflect the unique experiences of the North Nashville community. By this we have been said to function as a “lighthouse of culture” to the great city Nashville.

Feel like showing Art History Class how much you care? Let's keep this simple by using this Gofundme page. You can also come by the gallery and buy paintings by Founder & Creative Director, Thaxton Waters II, or other random treasures you may find.

As you can imagine, the transition costs are well into the 5-6 figure thousands, and by now, I'm sure you can see where this is going. Let's raise it. We are looking to our community to support, share and spread the word, to raise the initial $15,000 dollars for this transition. Here is a little breakdown...

Financial History and Current Needs:

The re-establishment of The Art history Class Lifestyle Lounge and Gallery is a cultural investment preserving the needs of our communities surrounding Historically Black Colleges and Universities. From 2014- 2016 we've invested over $20,000 in the development of our current space. We have served the community with more than 5 monthly programs, worked with over 10 community partners, and have hosted over 25 one-time events each year. Some events that we've hosted include the Conscious Conversations, Fathom's Spoken Word Cypher, various art, workshops, lectures, live musical performances, history and etiquette classes, and have showcased several local artists such as Shawn Whitsell, Rashad the Poet, Xavier Payne, and a host of others.

We wish to continue this work and are asking that our stakeholders reinvest alongside with us in Art History Class LLG to help us meet our goals for continuing and expanding the current programming. This would act as a catalyst to begin the work in the new space.

Thank you so much for your consideration and hopefully, your contribution to Art History Class Lifestyle Lounge and Gallery. Next, please write a similar post, or share this one. As long as our community is behind us, it will likely be taken care of quickly. When it comes down to it, this is not just for Art History Class LLG, but for all of us. Help us make sure that we can continue doing this life changing work.

Hello North Nashville family, friends, and community!
Some of you have probably heard about Art History Class Lifestyle Lounge and Gallery. We are an organization dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of North Nashville, to extending the legacy of the area’s historically black colleges and universities, and to supporting our community as it adapts to changes in the social and economic environment. Unfortunately, in July 2016, Art History Class LLG had to close its doors on Jefferson Street – the modest building could no longer support our growing community and the owner no longer wanted to fix or improve the building while increasing the rent. Now the fast pace of development in North Nashville is making the search for a new home a challenge beyond imagination. We won’t let this roadblock be the end of what we have started together, and we are humbly asking you to join in reestablishing Art History Class LLG in a new residence and in sustaining the legacy of North Nashville’s cultural life.

For those of you who know us and those of you who do not, let us tell you more.

What is Art History Class LLG?
What looks like a quiet building on a corner of Jefferson Street has been an active hub of North Nashville culture. Art History Class LLG has been a “place for the people": exhibiting the works of established local area artists, providing emerging artists and students a platform to showcase their art, and acting as a community epicenter for an area of Nashville that has been historically marginalized and forgotten. As a “living museum” and gallery, Art History Class LLG has presented a traditional African American aesthetic through curated, cultured and classic materials (e.g., art works, antiques, books, records, artifacts), displayed to keep the mind constantly engaged, challenged, and inspired. As a gathering space it has attracted visitors and residents to be in fellowship and authentic interaction, as well as to learn from North Nashville’s rich African American history.

Over the last three years, Art History Class LLG has become a gem in Nashville, expanding its programming, gaining attendance from all over the world, and getting attention from media outlets near and far. It has served North Nashville and its neighboring communities with more than 5 monthly programs, worked with over 10 community partners, and hosted over 25 one-time events each year. The range of gatherings has included:
• The Jefferson Street Art Crawl that showcases and celebrates artists all along the Jefferson Street corridor, partnering with The Garden Brunch Café, Woodcuts Gallery, and One Drop Ink.
• The Wine and Whiskey Socials that have brought together residents from different walks of life to engage with each other intellectually, spiritually, and socially;
• 2nd Soul Cinema which has educated and entertained audiences in an outdoor setting;
• Spoken word and live musical performances from Fathom’s Spoken Word Cypher, Shawn Whitsell, Rashad the Poet, Xavier Payne, and others, as well as workshops, lectures, history classes, and community conversations on critical issues facing North Nashville residents and neighborhoods.

Will you help preserve North Nashville’s cultural heritage, sustain the community-building momentum, and catalyze efforts to build up?
With your support, we will secure a new home in North Nashville so that we can reopen the “living museum” and gallery, bring back community gatherings at full-scale, and expand programming through artist residencies and youth-specific opportunities.

Here’s what YOU can do:
1) Donate. The money that is donated will help Art History Class LLG transition to a new space; it will be put toward:
• Rent for a new building (prices in North Nashville are getting out of control- fast!)
• Renovations to the space (the buildings being considered are all older and will need improvements to make sure the space is safe and welcoming)
• Utilities (We can read & paint so much better with lights)
• Insurance (Let’s keep those Picassos protected)
• Start-up costs for events and gatherings
You can donate through this GoFundMe page or you can contact Founder & Creative Director, Thaxton Waters II, directly at: arthistoryclass80@gmail.com

2. Stay connected and spread the word!
Over the next several months, Art History Class LLG will organize a series of pop-up events to continue North Nashville’s cultural legacy and nurture the social, intellectual, spiritual, and creative energy of the community. Keep informed of these gatherings through Facebook (@ArtHistoryClassLifestyleLounge) and Instagram (@arthistoryclassllg). Also keep supporting the art and culture of North Nashville (e.g., Norf Collective, One Drop Ink, and Woodcuts Gallery)

Please share this information about Art History Class LLG and our fundraising efforts with your friends, family, networks, and community through whatever social media you use. With our community behind us, we can reach our goals quickly!

This effort is not just for Art History Class LLG, but for the sustenance and spirit of all of us. Help make sure that we can continue doing this life-giving work. Thank you so much for your consideration and (hopefully) your contribution to Art History Class Lifestyle Lounge and Gallery!
