30182296_15274383740_r.jpegThe annual Art Outside festival at Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood, MO is a celebration of local artists from in and nearby the St. Louis, MO area.  Early Sunday morning, a micro-cell with high winds and violent weather blew through, doing so much damage to the artists's booths that the final day of the festival was cancelled.

There were 66 local artists showing their work this weekend, and each of them experienced some level of damage to their tent and their art. Some less severe than others, some an almost total loss.  Some tents were lifted up off of Southwest Ave and found hundreds of feet away on Sarah Street, behind the brewery.

Local news coverage of the damage: http://fox2now.com/2018/05/27/storm-damage-closes-schlaflys-art-outside-festival-in-maplewood/

We are raising funds to help offset at least a bit of the damage and loss the artists experienced, especially considering art fair season has officially begun.  The majority of these artists are start-ups and small businesses, and we know the amount of work and investment that has gone into their craft. The plan is to split the funds raised through this campaign evenly among all participating 2018 Art Outside Artists who wish to be included in the pool of recipients.

Additionally, we just confirmed that E-ZUP Instant Shelters  has generously offered a deeply discounted rate for participating artists who need to replace their tent.

Finally - donating here is not the only way to support these fantastic local artists. YOU CAN BUY THEIR ART! Many of them have online stores you can purchase from and many of them will be at other upcoming art fairs like the Webster Art Fair  next weekend. Additional Campaign Details

Who is managing this campaign?

Elle and Troika Brodsky live just a few houses down the street from Schlafly Bottleworks and were a couple of the neighbors helping clean up after the storm on Sunday morning. In addition to having a few friends with booths at this year's Art Outside, Troika is a long-time Maplewood resident who also worked for Schlafly Beer for 13 years and helped run Art Outside for many of those years. Elle currently runs the non-profit Yoga Buzz and Troika is the Executive Director of the St. Louis Brewers Guild and co-owner of Ices Plain & Fancy .

How will the funds be used and distributed?

Once the campaign has run its course (we dont have a set time limit - the plan is to simply make a call when momentum stalls out), the final total of donations recieved will be split evenly among all of the 2018 Art Outside artists who have not opted out of receiving funds. We have emailed a Google Form to all participating artists that gives them the option to opt out of receiving a share of funds if they would prefer to have their share benefit their fellow artists. The final even shares from this campaign will be paid out by check and mailed directly to these artists. All postage and logistics will be handled by Elle and Troika Brodsky.

THANK YOU!!! Thank you to everyone who donated to our fundraiser. We have now stopped accepting donations and are cutting checks. After GoFundMe fees, we raised $15,028.55 to distribute evenly to our artists. As not every artists sustained significant damage, we gave everyone the option to "opt-out" and donate their portion to the rest of the artists in need. Of the 66 artists in attendance, roughly 30 percent of them opted to donate their portion so in addition to everyone who so generously gave in this GoFundMe campaign, we also owe a huge thanks to our donating artists. That all said, we are currently writing out 45 checks each for over $325 and will have them in the mail this week! Thank you again to everyone for the love and support for our local artists and thank you to our amazing local art community!

Today is the final day to make donations to be distributed among the artists as donations have slowed and we want to get checks to folks as quickly as possible. As things stand now, with roughly 20% of our artists opting to donate their share of these funds, this campaign will result in over $300 being distributed to each beneficiary artist, which is amazing! On top of that, due to the catostrohpic nature of the storm and damage, Schlafly has refunded the $150 vendors fees to artists, representing a $10,000 donation on Schlafly's part. Not only is this incredibly generous, but one must also consider the significant financial loss the brewery sustained by having to shut down the final day of their event so this donation on their part is not small gesture. The commitment of Schlafly Beer to this community of local artists can not be understated. Once we have hit our official cut off and are working to cut checks this week, we will shut down this campaign page. We can not thank everyone enough for their support of this fund. As Kim Carr's "Comment" below states, for more than just a few of these artists, the storm damage was so bad many were left questioning how to move forward. While this campaign may not have been able to financially make all of our artists whole, hopefully the outpouring of support and love from the community has made certain no one is left questioning why what they do is vitally important. Thank you to our artists and THANK YOU to everyone who supports them, not just during this campaign, but every time to you support the arts.

296 unique donations from this amazing community have now gotten the campaign up over $14,000!!! We have received so much grateful feedback from our local artists who are so appreciative of this outpouring of support and love. THANK YOU! Many of these local artists will be participating in the Webster Arts Fair in Webster Groves, MO ( https://www.webster-arts.org) and Art in the Park in Columbia, MO ( https://columbiaartleague.org/artinthepark/home/) this weekend so please get out and support them if you can. Given that we want to get our artists checks as quickly as possible and donations have started to slow (as is to be expected), we are committing to running this campaign through the weekend and then bringing it to a close by mid-next week. So please, help us share this campaign out one more time on Twitter and Facebook and ask your friends, family, and community one more time to make a donation to support local! Lets see if we can't get one last HUGE push through the weekend. Thank you again for your loving hearts and support of our amazing art community and thank you again to Schlafly - The Saint Louis Brewery for their continued support of our local artists and this fundraising campaign. Art Outside is an incredible event and we can't wait for next year's iteration!

Our campaign has made it up over $10,000! This is our first milestone goal as it represents being able to offset everyone's vendor fees. The next and more significant milestone will be to help offset the cost of new heavy duty pop-up tents for everyone. That's a big goal as we would need to bring in roughly another $30,000, but with the amazing support we have received just in the first two days of the campaign, anything is possible. Thank you all so much! And please check out the vendor map from this year's Art Outside and see the list of links to all of the artist's websites as the most direct way to support these artists is to buy their art!
