Art Against All Odds on Tour!

Tax deductible
On December 4th, 2016, Aswat Ensemble  and the Vukani Mawethu Choir  along with several other performing artists successfully completed their solidarity concert - Art Against All Odds: Black & Muslim Expressions of Love and Faith. The free event successfully drew an audience of over 600 people with hundreds more  on the waiting list.  The response from the community was overwhelming and this is why we would like to take this show on the road.

We need to raise the amount of $4,000 by February 1st to help us fund our next show of Art Against All Odds at the Mission in Santa Clara University.  Please join us for this free event on February 11th, 2017 from 7-9pm.  This event is in cooperation with the Office for Intercultural Learning - Santa Clara Unversity.

Our goal to bring it to every county in the Bay Area and we need your support to make that happen.

Too long in the history of the US, blacks and Muslim immigrant communities have stood divided at worst, and indifferent to one another at best. However, as recent events have shown us, the importance of solidarity is more important now than ever. We live in a moment in which numerous minority communities - Blacks, Muslims, immigrants, LBGT and disabled communities – are under attack

Art Against All Odds is a musical collaboration between the Black and Muslim communities that revolves around the themes of Love and Faith and aims to break down barriers and challenge stereotypes.  We believe that the Arts offer the best medium for establishing understanding and acceptance among all people regardless of their ethnicity, race, gender, or creed.  By encouraging the Bay Area's diverse communities to work hand-in-hand with one another we hope to combat prejudice and discrimination against all.

All of the money we raise will go towards achieving this goal and keeping Art Against All Odds FREE for all attendees.

We truly appreciate your support and hope to see you at our next Art Against All Odds concert!

Zawaya is a non-profit organization that seeks to contribute to the multicultural discourse of the Bay Area with the Arab arts. Zawaya means “aspects” or “corners”, suggesting the many art forms to be discovered and enjoyed in Arab culture. It was founded in 2003 by Nabila Mango and Haya Shawwa Ben Halim, two Arab-American women who recognized that the challenges faced by the Arab-American community in the Bay Area requires a creative response. With Zawaya, they sought to give the Arab community a voice, including a musical one. Aiming to address stereotypes and misconceptions, Zawaya offers a genuine image of Arab Americans and their rich civilization, which can only be a source of strength for American society.
