ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day

NEIGHBORHOODS DAY 2017

The 11th annual Neighborhoods Day is just around the corner (August 5, 2017) and we are seeking financial assistance to help with underwriting hardware store vouchers for Detroit neighborhood group beautification projects and senior citizen clean up/paint projects.  Please continue reading how we started, posted below by ARISE Detroit's operations officer, Crystal Staffney.

ARISE Detroit! was founded in 2006 by Luther Keith, former award-winning editor and columnist for The Detroit News.

We are a broad-based coalition of community groups. Our mission is to launch a new wave of volunteerism for the many worthwhile programs and activities that are struggling with the issues that trouble our community – illiteracy, high school dropout rates, crime and youth violence, drug abuse, domestic abuse, neighborhood blight and unemployment.

It is our belief that everyone can play a role and render service, thereby having a greater impact on solving these chronic problems. Our goal is to unite the entire community — nonprofit organizations, churches, schools, the business community and the media — in an unprecedented call to action.

This movement is about making a personal commitment for change at a critical time in our city’s history. We invite you to be part of this historic effort.

In 2007, ARISE Detroit! established annual Neighborhoods Day. It is the first every citywide observance to showcase the work of community groups and organizations to create a better Detroit. Neighborhoods day has grown from 55 to over 300 activities in neighborhoods in the same day, including hundreds or organizations and thousands of volunteers.

The day includes clean-up projects, neighborhoods picnics, newly constructed homes, hosting health fairs, concerts and youth activities in neighborhoods all over the city and on the same day. A mayoral proclamation has been established the first Saturday of every August as “ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day.” This day has become an annual tradition for Detroit neighborhood groups.

We need your support in our efforts to continue to make Neighborhoods Day a success!
