Archer was born with a genetic condition called "Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, A1AD", which was diagnosed at 3 months of age.
Now at 6 years old, Archer's body has deteriorated significantly over the last 2.5 years resulting in some 25 hospital admissions in Albury & Melbourne.
On Thursday 19 April this year Archer had a significant & life threatening Oesophageal Varices Bleed; was taken to Albury Hospital and then air lifted to Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. Some three weeks later, Archer was listed on the “active donor list” on Monday (7th May 2018). So the wait has begun for the life changing call.
Archer’s family live in Albury/Wodonga, some 3.5hours from Melbourne & RCH. Archer’s condition means that the family are often separated. Archer’s sister, Sienna (9 yrs) also has her own health issues; is non verbal and there are very little known other diagnosis of this condition in the world with her Chromosome 6 micro deletion.
As a result of the travel involved, it causes significant financial stress for the family as they are running between their home in Wodonga and rental accommodation in Melbourne, which itself incorporates many additional costs during this process. Due to the children’s health Nikki is unable to work and having to rely solely on Hayden’s wage.
Archer and his mum Nikki have recently returned from Melbourne, and awaiting a phone call that will change Archer’s life forever.
Archer’s condition is and will be ongoing for many years to come. Pre and post operative and associated costs will be substantial.
As a parent and close family relative of Nikki and Archer’s family, I cannot imagine their heartache on a daily basis. In order to help the family where ever we can, all monies donated will go directly to them to help with accommodation, commuting and medical costs only to name a few.
