Pablo's Chance/ Apoyando a Pablito

Donation protected
My name is Merary Garza and I met Pablo Sanchez and his family two years ago. He is been bed ridden for years but has never given up hope of finding a cure for his condition.

Because Pablo cannot receive the help he needs in Mexico, he needs to travel with his parents from the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico to a hospital in San Antonio, Texas where a group of specialist have agreed to see him. They will also need simple accommodation and food after the initial meeting in the hospital because after diagnosing the condition, a detailed plan will have to be made about treatment options and funding. Meanwhile the family has to stay in the United States.

I met Pablo in a charity project where we were able to get him a bigger wheelchair. Since I've known him, he has been active in trying to find help for himself in Mexico. We have collected funds in different ways and our latest victory was getting a medical visa to the United States.

The donations give Pablo a chance for a better quality of life - a possibility to be more independent in the future. Taking the first step to get treatment in America, gives Pablo a chance to manifest his youthful zeal and connect with others. Pablo deepest wish is to walk again - it keeps him going on and has never lost hope of being cured and being able to live a more normal life and also help other people in need.

Pablo has spent years in treatment in Mexico but the doctors eventually had to give up and recommend treatment in the United States where there is better access to specific diagnostic tools and bigger chance to treat his condition. Pablo's family does not have the means to pay the costs needed to realize this trip to Texas.

Before opening the GoFundMe page the Rotary club donated a new wheelchair for Pablo. As his story spread more, people started donating money privately. Using a laptop in his room he has arranged different events to collect money for the hospital bills in Mexico. Last year, after the doctors said there was nothing more they could do, we started looking for a way to obtain a medical visa to America and with a help of a lot of people including the mayor of our city, we were able to get the visa. We have also received help from the US and thus were able to contact the doctors in San Antonio. A lot of people are still helping by looking for ways to fund Pablo's future hospital bills.

We have been fighting for Pablo and with Pablo for over two years now. It was last December when finally we got the final statement from his treating doctors: there is nothing left to be done. But if there is something Pablo has taught all of us it is to never give up! As long as there is life, there is hope.

If you'd like to help apart from donating, please share Pablo's story with friends and family. Also experiences and recommendations of  medical funds for people staying in the US with medical visa are highly welcomed. Thank you, muchas gracias!
