Save Anzlo and Alice!

$3,370 of $4,000 goal

Raised by 69 people in 16 months
The Greater Derry Humane Society is currently engaged in a legal fight to keep two beautiful dogs,  Anzlo and Alice. They have been in GDHS's care for the last two years, after being seized from a house in Derry for cruelty and negligence charges.  They were both full of fleas, worms and both had skin issues.  Anzlo had no fur at all on his tail and near his tail, and Alice had long-untreated infected ears, urine burns on her rump and back legs.

Two years later, their owner was not convicted because of non-reparable incompetence. The law states that the animals have to go back to her unless she is convicted. She wasn't convicted because she is incompetent. Some loophole!!! Look at where they were living.

She wants them back after two years and the court just said she could have them back because of this loophole in the law!  We have asked for a hearing and another judge will hear our reasons for not giving them back.  Legal fees are expensive and since w
e rely on donations to survive, we are asking for donations of any amount to help us fight to keep these two from going back to a potentially horrible situation.   PLEASE  HELP THEM STAY WHERE THEY ARE -  HEALTHY AND HAPPY BY DONATING!

UPDATE: We won the preliminary injunction in Superior Court and the dogs stay where they are for now - happy and safe - until a trial.  This is GROUNDBREAKING for animal rights. Our judge acknowledged that animals are not like other pieces of property! They need to be cared for to exist - unlike a piece of furniture or a car or anything else considered property.  In case you don't know, NH considers an animal as a piece of property. We hope and pray that we may be changing the attitudes of our lawmakers. The next step? The Court has scheduled a scheduling hearing for the lawyers in late February and then we go to trial, probably sometime in May. If you haven't donated yet, please donate any amount to help us pay our legal fees. We refuse to give up on these two beautiful dogs, one of which is a senior girl who deserves to be spoiled for the rest of her life, and the other is an adult dog whose remaining years should be spent with a full belly and lots of ball games.

The Greater Derry Humane Society is a small, 100% volunteer foster based rescue organization.  We help pets of all ages, including senior pets who
are often overlooked.  We are a 501(c)(3) organization and donations are tax deductible.

Our court date has once again been rescheduled ... now it is sometime in January. Looks like we won't be giving Alice and Anzlo a holiday gift this year .

We go back to court on November 30th. This whole experience has been disheartening and frustrating. It seems if we go one step forward we end up going 5 steps backward. Alice and Anzlo were removed from their home along with other animals back in the fall of 2015. We have been fighting to keep them in their foster homes since then. We have spent over $4000 so far in veterinary and legal fees. All of us involved have been worried sick about the outcome. Alice, a 16-year-old dog who has been loved and spoiled ... how can we even imagine her going back.. the possibility of her ending up in the same conditions she was found in is just too horrible. And Anzlo, a big strong dog who can be very aggressive with strangers. Will he go back just to be euthanized because of biting someone? We are hoping and praying that this Friday is the end and they are allowed to stay in the home they have known for the last 3+ years.

09172018 we thought would be our lucky day. Hmmm.
Our court case has been continued to November 30 so the sealed psychiatric reports can be unsealed and shared with us. Sigh...almost 3 years now.

The struggle to keep these two beautiful dogs is real and it has a life of it's own after 3 years. We will never get the money back we have spent to care for these two, whether we win or lose - the money is gone. We fight for the life of Alice and Anzlo...the quality of life they have had the last 3 years. The legal system concerning animals needs to be changed in NH. Animals are not just property. Thank you to all that have donated, it has been a tremendous help. We ask that if you haven't donated, please consider it. In addition to the vet care, we have other bills to pay, such as these ongoing legal fees. Thank you.
