Annie's Keep Me Learning Fund

Donation protected
Annie just wants to keep learning.  We are looking for help to provide Annie with as many high-quality learning experiences as possible, including professional tutors and diverse learning resources, for the next two years.

Please help Annie keep a positive, enthusiastic view of the future, full of curiosity and learning. Here's why Annie needs help:

A few weeks ago, on January 17, 2017 Annie was admitted to Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel here in Portland, Oregon with a stiff neck and some swelling right around her collarbone. The doctors spotted a mass growing around her heart and lungs.

The diagnosis was as bad as it can be: Stage Four Lymphoma. Doctors found traces throughout her body, including her bone marrow.

This is Annie's second time around with leukemia. She was diagnosed with leukemia when she was three years old. After years of treatment, the cancer was in remission.

But Annie spent her 12th birthday in the hospital with that very same cancer.  Her friends and family had a birthday party for her in the hospital.

Annie has begun very aggressive chemotherapy treatments. Sometime in March of this year she should be ready for a bone marrow transplant. This is complicated a bit because she is 1/4 Native American and so far a suitable donor has yet to be found.

When she was younger Annie missed a grade level in school because of her cancer treatments. She is very concerned about missing another grade and wants very much to keep learning and to stay up with her classmates.

We are seeking help so that we can provide Annie with skilled, professional tutors, resources and other educational support that will help her keep learning over the next one or two difficult years.

While she needs continuing support in writing, reading, arithmetic and other traditional coursework, she loves music and just got a new piano and ukulele for birthday gifts.

We want Annie to have every opportunity to continue to grow in every way. She will need private tutoring sessions with professionals who are able to work with her through both good times and bad.

Annie is a strong, brave young girl who is facing cancer, and her treatments, with resolve and courage. She just wants to keep learning new things and to improve herself in all ways.

She needs some help doing it.

Please help Annie keep a positive, enthusiastic view of the future, full of curiosity and learning.
