Anja is now 11 and had a relapse of her ALL Leukemia on December 8, 32017. Her cancer returned in her head and affected her vision and was missed by her cancer doctors. It proved to be extremely difficult to get her into remission which is necessary for her to get to a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) at the U of Minnesota.
Anja required twice as much chemo to get her cancer into remission and that unfortunately also severely injured her brain and put her into ICU with little chance for recovery to even consider the BMT. We were told not to expect recovery and that she had a 10% chance to survive ICU.
Anja has showed her fighting spirit and is slowing waking up, she has cognitive abilities but cannot speak or move her body aside from her head (so far). While doctors work with their statistical averages we continue to see Anja's fighting spirit and what prayer and constant support can do!
While we don't know what her full body recovery will be we are sure we will get her to BMT and that God will continue to work miracles in her life.
This little girl has experienced the death of her dad and showed show much strength and enlightenment in her 3 year journey with cancer. She is not giving up and neither are we. She as I tell her is my hero and she gives me as much strength as our church, family and friends do!
She will prove doctors wrong once again and know she will overcome this and my greatest gift is the saving of my little girls life and to look forward to her growing into a beautiful young women and walking her down the aisle. This will happen!
The care for Anja has affected our ability to work and to pay for all that might be incurred in her care and to be honest I am willing to lose everything to make sure she has every opportunity to have the fullest recovery she can have. I love this little girl as if she came from me and have been her daddy since she was 5.
She means everything to me and her mom and I will sacrifice my life to save her. She is an amazing girl and is still an amazing girl in this fight!
